Thanks for clarifying, Cliff. I use separate bins, too. I'm usually home to bring the bins in or stay on top of that stuff (not literally, although that DEFINITELY would keep them from blowing away!) but I see other bins blowing all around. I have my address written on mine, too.

Being an OCD type person has it drawbacks but in this case it comes in handy! ;)

Are we getting a new trash service soon? My trash can and recycle bin either blew away or were picked up. I thought I had heard that a new company was starting soon. If not, I guess I'll check the woods at the end of the street...

    Staci,

Is it possible that we drop off the NH cans at the pool (staging area) after we receive the Patriot cans? Perhaps an hour or 2 on a Saturday?

It is suppose to be somewhat coordinated so that you do not end up with both sets for more than a day or 2. Let me get some more details and I will let you know.

Still to be claimed from the recent wind storm:

At the corner of Avonworth and Dilworth (SW townhouses):

    • Blue recycling bin
    • Brown recycling bin
    • Green trash can (non-trash company supplied)
In the woods at the end of Dilworth:

    • Trash and recycling that was in the cans (lots of it)

Also, as of this morning, there's a green recycling bin lying in the grass between the Sunoco station and Broadlands Pizza in case someone is still missing theirs?

    1. Perhaps our neighbors need wind lessons - that when the wind blows, sticking your garbage out the night before with no top is not the brightest move. And if it does blow they need to pick it up. The area is getting destroyed with litter
    2. I spent 6 months trying to get the large garbage can from the current trash vendor - - many calls, emails and complaints later I finally achieved total trash nirvana of the large can. NOW I HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK? Argh. Please tell me that we will at least get the equivalent cans that are stable, have a top and large enough for a family??? And that the townhouses will not get some lame little can that falls apart after three uses and then have to beg for months to get the bigger one?? Please???

    Doc-
Maureen mentioned this in the other thread.....if you live in a townhouse and want a large container, send Maureen an email and you will get one.

On President's Day, my wife took the 3 kids (to honor Civic Duties) out to the bike path behind Larchmont and cleaned up all the way to Claiborne.

They filled 4 contractor bags with trash and/or recycle from the wind storm.

    Need advice here:

They also found a few fire extinguishers???

Should we call the AVFD and have them pick them up (or drop them off)?

Interesting! I believe those extinguishers might be 'registered', so yes, call the AVFD and see what they suggest you do with them. Also, if there's a way they can tell you who they were registered to, I would love to pay the owners a visit...

My wife also went outside last Sat to the common areas next to our house and across the street with a large trash bag and cleaned up. There is even more trash there now after the high winds on Wed/Thurs. If everyone continues to pitch in (she plans to do it again tomorrow since it's supposed to be a little warmer), we can get the community cleaned up.

It's a nice example to set when your children are with you, too!

Normally we would agree with you, but the area is very swampy and she said a lot of the bushes were the prickly kind, so we wouldn't want our 4 and 6 year-old out there. Plus, you never know just what kind of trash you're gonna find. In fact, she was afraid she might come across a snake. But they knew that mommy was out cleaning up, so still setting an example.

Thanks for cleaning. I've done some, but not as much as you.

I disagree a little with judgement of those whose bins blew over, especially the super windy day that started this thread. We packed our bin super tight, but when a 60+ gust came at 7:30am it blew our bin over. Luckily my spouse and I were dressed and watching so we ran out and got everything contained before it spread too far. When our neighbors blew over, my husband help her straighten it out.

I really don't like to judge too much but if I had too, I'd save it for the 20 mph days, not the super anomolous (sp?) 60mph days when people can get caught off guard with even a well packed bin.

I agree that it sometimes is out of the owner's control. The bin may tip over or stuff flies out, even with best of intentions. However, I've noticed that it sometimes takes days for someone to retrieve their recycling bin and even longer to retrieve the garbage.

Windy tonight (again) folks, so think about that as you set out your trash and recycling!

    Thanks!

Here we go again. I just drove down my street maneuvering around recyclables like an obstacle course...Guess I'll be doing some cleaning up this weekend...

Sorry to resurrect this thread again, but it is Recycling Day and it was windy today! Do people not realize yet that non-broken down cardboard boxes don't stay in front of their house when the wind blows? I felt like I was part of Patriot's recycling team today because of the amount of recyclables that I picked up when I got home from work. I guess those residents whose recyclables that I picked up don't care because the stuff is no longer in their bin. Well my bin is full and it is Thursday.

Sorry to rant, but I think I am one of the few people in the SW Townhouse section to pick up the trash and the "fun" is gone.
