My first thought when I read the title was "Virginia Chiantella, hands down." I couldn't say it any better than jen and PhotoMom.

Dr. Stephani Akbari did my bi-lateral mastectomy in May of 2007. She is rated one of Washington's top Doctors. Her professional skills and bedside manner are unmatched. She opened the center for breast health at WHC, last year some time. A bit further to drive than her old office in Mclean but she is worth it. I also sought 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions...Hopkins, Georgetown and others in the area. If you want more info or names, feel free to PM me. I am sorry you are in need of surgeon...but know that we are lucky to live in an area with such great specialists. Dr. Chiantella was also on my list of suggested Drs from my OB, although I ran into patients with differing opinions. Depending on your diagnosis, you may want to be sure to talk to a couple to find the one that is best for you.
    Take care,
    K

Thankyou guys for your recommendations. I did not have any of the above doctors in my list. I was told to see DR. Habib in leesburg area but before going there, i wanted to get some recommendations. Surprisingly, nobody recommended her.

    Thanks again!

Dr. Shawna Willey at Georgetown. She is head of the department and one of the best in the country. Very kind and compassionate.

I did also see Dr. Wlley at Georgetown and her counterpart Dr. Cosilovo. Both get great reviews, although Dr.Cosilovo spent more time talking about saving my fertility than my life...Depending on what you are having done. Dr, Nahabidian (sp?) at Georgetown does an incredible reconstruction...while taking stomach fat. He is world known and I think the world of him too.

PM if you want some feed back on Dr. Habib...I did not go there, but one of the gals in my BC support group did. She did not go back.
