Toyota suspends car sales.......What about the cars sold recently?

Its good that Toyota suspended the car sale due to the gas pedal issue...

What about those who bought the new car recently from Toyota dealers?

What if the new car they bought is their main commute car?

    Do we have any option?

I am little scared to drive my new toyota with all these recalls.....

And this is my main commute car which I just bought 3 months ago.

Who knows how long Toyota would take to do research and fix the issue?

I can't even sell this now and buy a new one unless I take a big hit....

I hate Toyota now, I should have stayed with Honda....

Any of you are affected by this recall and still drive your car?

Any car you drive could malfunction...even the car traveling behind you, beside you, etc. The important thing to know is how to disengage the motor should it happen to you just as you should know how to adjust a car sliding on ice, water, etc. If you do not know how to do these things then you should not be driving and I should be frightened to be on the road with you.

    From the Toyota Website:

What if you experience a sticking accelerator pedal while driving?
Each circumstance may vary, and drivers must use their best judgment, but Toyota recommends taking one of the following actions:

    • If you need to stop immediately, the vehicle can be controlled by stepping on the brake pedal with both feet using firm and steady pressure. Do not pump the brake pedal as it will deplete the vacuum utilized for the power brake assist.
    • Shift the transmission gear selector to the Neutral (N) position and use the brakes to make a controlled stop at the side of the road and turn off the engine.
    • If unable to put the vehicle in Neutral, turn the engine OFF. This will not cause loss of steering or braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost.
    • If the vehicle is equipped with an Engine Start/Stop button, firmly and steadily push the button for at least three seconds to turn off the engine. Do NOT tap the Engine Start/Stop button.
    • If the vehicle is equipped with a conventional key-ignition, turn the ignition key to the ACC position to turn off the engine. Do NOT remove the key from the ignition as this will lock the steering wheel.

It is easy to say now. But how would we react when it really happens?

Remember the cop in San Diego died with his whole family. May be he panicked and couldn't do the steps listed by Toyota....

Any good driver with common sense will do the same as listed in toyota's site.

HEH, the folks who are really feeling some pain are the dealership employees -- I guarantee the phones are ringing off the hook from customers calling to "demand a different car" that will never exist. Lots of yelling, screaming, and crying there.

The first cars that will receive the newly redesigned pedals modules? All the brand new ones sitting on the showroom floor, well before the big rollout for current customers. Gotta sell cars!

2.4 million pedal modules will probably take about 8-16 months until everyone is taken care of.

Well, not to pick on you, but yeah, you're supposed to know how to handle an emergency situation if you are going to get behind the wheel. Remember all those crazy scenarios in driver's ed? What to do if you start to skid? What to do if your brakes fail? What to do if you hood pops up, blocking your view? I don't remember being taught how to deal with a stuck accelerator but maybe they teach that now. If not they should probably add it to the curriculum.

I still remember my driver's ed instructor's words: "Cars are killing machines. If you truly respect that fact, you'll be a safe driver."

yep-that's my POINT. I've dealt with several of the other situations you pointed out and live to tell about them. a stuck gas pedal is nothing i've EVER thought about- i guess i always expected that to be one of the biggest no nos of car making. :) maybe that's why it wasn't in the cirriculum- after all- who'd (supposedly, allegedly) skimp on QC and safety testing processes and end up making a car with a sticky cas pedal?!?!? My money was on Ford.

by the way i don't feel picked on. ;) you raise valid arguments.
