You know when Summer is here when there are lots of cars with teens in it who never FULLY stop at stop signs ...they just cruise right on through all the while yakking with friends in the car or yakking/texting on the phone. I gave one young girl a dirty look when she just kept going through the intersection without even stopping at the stop sign...she flipped me the bird and kept on going. One day, she's going to get hit by a car when she doesn't stop at the stop sign/light.

I think this would be a good time for all parents to have a talk with their young teens driving habits and warn them. God forbid one of these parents in this area is going to be faced with the loss of their family cars or even worse have a kid who is killed if they keep up this awful driving habits around here. Just sayin'. :(

I witnessed two high school aged girls tonight who seemed to be celebrating and/or dancing to the music in their car (while seated), but glad to say they took their time through the intersection. Guess "school is out...for...the summer."

During school season I swear I try to stay off the roads at 4.00 when school ends - it's a deathtrap.

Kids mostly learn how to drive from observing their parents. :conf3:

Definitely make sure your teen is aware of the other teens who are running stop signs. I saw the infamous black SUV run the Claiborne/Ridgeway stop sign doing 50 (again) this weekend. There were 4 other cars at that intersection at that time.

My sister was killed by a truck running a red light. If she had only considered that others might not obey the law, she might be around today.

George Carlin had a joke: He was driving with a friend in the car and every time he came to a red light he drove on through. The friend, concerned, asked him why he did that. George said, "It's okay my brother does this all the time." After running a few more red lights he came to a green light and stopped. His friend asked what he was doing and George said "my brother might be coming the other way."

Not to make light of a very serious situation but this is what I often think of when passing through intersections. I may know what I'm doing and be doing the right thing but that doesn't mean that everyone else is. And *that* is what we all have to look out for.

And remember - approaching an intersection, changing lanes, and starting to go when the light turns green are not the best times to be playing with the radio. Or the GPS, or the anything.

Good reference, it's bad enough being in a vehicle and seeing people blow through stop signs, but really scary when your on a motorcycle.

Not all teenagers are bad drivers who break the law, more probably follow the rules than don't. There are plenty of your adult neighbors who are crappy drivers too. Capricorn, you seem to have it out for teenagers.

And it's a shame that I see just as many adults displaying these exact same behaviours. Just sayin.....

Is it a problem to shoot speeding cars with my paintball gun? I MIGHT make a dent, but it will certainly leave a 'scarlet letter' for all to see......Just a thought.

Au Contraire....I just stated that because summer is here and many parents aren't aware of their kid's driving behavior. Aside from that, many parents are paying through the nose for insurance premiums that covers their young drivers and I know from friends who have teenagers that are telling me that its NOT cheap. To boot, if they get infractions or tickets from the cops, that insurance premium will go up significantly.

To be fair, there are a lot of adults who drive crappy as well but younger drivers have a LOT less driving experience than the rest of us, granted.

Most, if not all, parents would say "oh, not my kid...that kid would never do that!". Parents tend to believe that their kid will never do that but once the kid is OUT of the parent's eyesight, sometimes kids do stupid things that get them in trouble. Believe me, when I was a kid, I have done some stupid things that I shouldn't have done once I was OUT of my parents' eyes...I'm just saying that kids need to be watched MORE than adults do when it comes to cars due to their inexperience! Two of my cars were totalled by teenagers going through the red light so Im speaking from experience. Some teens (notice that I didn't say "ALL") think they are immortal and nothing will happen to them.

So, just for the record---I do not have it out for the teens. Just a concerned parent and I didn't appreciate a young teen girl flipping me off while running a stop sign with other teens in the car. Shows that she has a lack of respect for older people. Im sure if the car was T-Boned by someone else who had right of way, the teen passengers' parents wouldn't be so happy with the teen driver and would retain lawyers against the teen driver who happily ran the stop sign. That's my point.

I am with Capricorn. I also tried to politely let someone know about parking in a fire land and they flipped me off as well. This was the parent with the teen right next to them. Nice society we are creating here.
