Mr. Linux is right! I shot it with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II & 24-105mm f/4L lens. I also used Gitzo GT-1540 legs and a Really Right Stuff BH-40 LR II ballhead/clamp. Plus a Canon RC-1 wireless remote.

You can check out my gallery (http://immotionphoto.com) if you'd like. I also shoot with a Canon EOS 7D and a bunch of other lenses (from a fisheye to a macro to an ultra-wide to a normal prime to a big, fat telephoto to another normal zoom...].

The simple trick for night shots is to use a good, sturdy tripod. You don't have to spend $1K+ for it; just get enough to safely hold your camera & lens up. The topmost shot was done with a very long exposure (30 seconds). If you want to be really careful, use a wireless remote or the timer (so your finger pressing the shutter won't shake the camera when it's exposing). Long exposures will let the camera "soak up" the light without needing flash but make sure things aren't moving around. My gallery also shows some long exposures I shot at Great Falls Park where the water looks like silk (also very easy shots with a tripod).

Thanks for all the kind words!

I guess I should say something about the assessment. Just think of it as a tip to the snow removers so we could all drive to the supermarket to hoard more toilet paper.

*camera drool alert!* I was going to the the 70-200 f4 L (f2.8 IS too rich for me) but decided on a tamron 18-270 for now.... now I'd like a T2i or 7d so I can shoot some video and not carry around my HG20 too!

While I understand the annoyance at having to cough up almost $150 (I am in a TH on a private street), I was also VERY happy to be able to get out of my neighborhood after the storm. The plowing company did a great job working around the clock to stay on top of the snowfall. I've read the assessment letter and the posts here. I see no sign of mismanagement. Time to pay the fee and move on.
