After four months of marathon training on pavement, I'm considering giving trail running a shot. Other than the horse trail that runs along the W&OD, I'm not sure where the good local trails are. Any suggestions?

How far are you willing to go? There are a number mountain biking trails in the area that would be good for trail running as well. I regularly ride an offroad loop in Reston that works out to be about 9.5miles if I don' take any side trails. I think the below link will get you to my GPS route.

You may also want to try Manassas National battlefield park. The W&OD gravel trail parallel to the pavement has been good enough for my long runs.
