We ate there yesterday after church. It was fairly full, the food wasn't bad. Kids liked the chicken tenders and fries, the nachos and chicken cheesesteak were okay, husband did not care for his "King something" sandwich but those of us that ordered breakfast were happy. Our waiter was working hard and very attentive.

I do think the decor is very odd for something called Coney Island Diner, and the bathrooms are out in the lobby of the office building. The kids (I am guessing, children of the owners) were dressed up outside like a hotdog, I am guessing trying to pull people in for breakfast from the enormous church next door....they were cute. Yeah, the whole thing felt a little odd. I guess I was expecting something different from the name.
The owner was out talking to people and the staff seemed genuinely interested in your happiness.

The food was fine, from our experience, your best bet is the basic diner breakfast. I can't do IHOP, it gives me the heebie geebies. I'll never understand why someone would order a crabcake egg benedict from a place like this...of course they are going to fail. Leave meals like that to a more upscale location.

Overall it was fine, they get bonus points for trying hard, and the breakfast. I don't think we would go back for any other type of food.

Went there today for lunch. Not really impressed. Chili was average at best, as were the onion rings. My buddy got the hot dog. He said it was a little overcooked and the roll charred a bit much. He said his fries were ok.

Thumbs in the middle from both of us. With Windy City Red Hots right down the street, I won't be back for lunch.

However, breakfast is a totally different story. I would give it a try if I was in the area, although I live on the other side of Ashburn. How hard can it be to cook eggs, bacon and ham?

uhh- you'd be surprised! If I may- Cafe Rumi and Amvrosia also serve excellent breakfasts. a little further out in Chantilly- Eggspectation is BEYOND ALL OTHERS on the variety and quality of breakfast itmes (except omelettes- Rui still wins best omelette in MY book!)

I will give Coney Island a second try for the hot dogs. My benedict (regular EB) experience was similar to another review in here- not great at all. they do try hard and I see lunch items I'd want to give a try.

Been having breakfast here the last 3 weekends. We've been pleasantly surprised. Food has always been good. Service has been spotty, but they have great attitudes which has more than made up for a few minor missteps. Prices are better than IHOP, and we've found the food to be better as well. We'll keep going back.

My experience from my previous thread:

Co-workers and I ordered from this place rather frequently throughout the month of September, but that has ended and we have a firm BAN on this establishment. One co-worker ordered the hotdog with chili/cheese and got a case of an upset stomach, but we weren’t sure if it was related to the food or not at the time… until a few weeks later myself and another co-worker got food poisoning. I ordered the Chicken Philly and my co-worker had the Mahi Tuna sandwich. I actually ended up in the ER due to dehydration and trouble breathing. Just last week, another co-workers (who hadn’t heard of everyone else’s experiences) ALSO got food poisoning!! She ordered a turkey sandwich. The food was actually decent but I am not interested in getting sick anymore.

My family and I , have been visiting this diner once or twice a week since it opened. We never had any bad meal ,quality food, portions, service, and atmosphere is good , I would have to dissagree with your overexagurated opinion about their food. It seems to me you have something personal against this diner , owners or employees. I think the place is lovely, and one of a kind in Ashburn. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Went there for breakfast this morning. Very pleased. Fast, friendly service and a very good breakfast. We have few good breakfast places here. This is a nice addition.

Interesting... I am not knocking your review, or any others, but to state that my review was "over exaggerated" or that I have a "personal vendetta" is crazy and disrespectful to mine and my co-workers' experiences. I did not say anything negative about the place, only mentioned our personal experiences. I will repeat - the food was decent; I'm just not interested in getting sick anymore. If you feel that my ER visit was over exaggerated then I'll send you my ER bill, and you're welcome to reimburse me for my expenses! Thanks

Tried this spot after church today. Shortly after being seated I witnessed the owner threaten one of his waitstaff by saying, "You do that again and I'll kick you in the face."

I wanted to get up right then and there, before even ordering, and walk out. The only reason I didn't is because we'd already promised the kids pancakes and I didn't want to then have to drive to IHOP.

We got our food pretty quickly and it was exactly what I expected. Nothing special, but not awful. My kids gobbled their pancakes and eggs, my omelet was fine, hubby's sandwich was fine. The food certainly wouldn't have drawn me back anyway, but even if it had, what I witnessed from the owner will make me stay far, far away from this place.

My family's single experience with Coney Island Diner was mediocre. The chili dogs were not remarkable and duplicated easily in our home kitchen out of a can of chili sauce. Service was average, even for a night that we were about the only ones there. But have to admit the family is used to vastly superior Skyline Chili coney dogs and the long-defunct Lum's Restaurant chain that had 1/4 pound hot dogs steamed in beer and smothered in excellent chili and cheese. I have never found a match to that place.

WOW Lums? Growing up in NC we ate there every Sunday. I never knew they were a chain.

I hear that the Windy City Red Hots truck that parks at Bluemount Nursery on Route 7 near Ashburn Village Blvd. is very good. I mean, it's hot dogs, but for hot dogs it's supposed to be good. :)
