Okay. But perspective. We live in houses worth hundreds of thousands, we pay thousands in real estate taxes, we pay $68 to $123 a MONTH in HOA fees, we paid a very small sum of $25 to get the large recycle toters.
Now that Patriot is willing to provide them, I just am not concerned that others will get for free what I paid $25 for.

I think this is a mistake. Only a small percentage of the community recycles. I think a lot of people, especially those in townhouses with no or one car garages, will not want these.
I believe the HOA should let residents know they are now available and they can contact Patriot if they want one.

No worries... we can put it next to the trash can outside. :2thumbs: I'll be happy to have it!

vacliff's assessment is correct. The folks who want them should ask for them. I opted out this morning and the woman I spoke to said she has taken a number of calls already.

Since the foot print is basically the same as the current bin, and the lid is going to keep litter from blowing all over the neighborhood - our 2nd most frequent complaint after people not picking up after their pets - I'm not sure why there is opposition. If you don't recycle to start with you will not get one...only folks who put the the uncovered bins out for recyclable collection are proposed to receive a larger lidded one.

Well just for some perspective on the 'footprint'.. My bins sit on shelves in the garage, not on the floor. Hence a significant difference.

Flynn, we're in the same boat in that currently ours sit on a shelf. But regardless, given the fact that (a) we always have more recycling than trash, and (b) stuff blows out of the bins making a mess, and (c) we have two bins which each week are full on Thursdays, I'm happy to get the new toter with a lid and it is important enough to me to find a new space for the toter to live.

Hmmm, I've been paying $83/month. Have the prices gone down and I'm just not aware of it?

Yes, I know. I was just wondering why Vacliff said $68.

Probably because he lives in a single family house.

Please reread what I said. But I wil repost it: $68 to $123 a month.
Depends if you are a single family home on a VDOT street, or a single family home on a private street, a townhouse, or a courtyard home, etc. We have many different HOA fees which is why I listed a spread.

The HOA can't take credit for this. It was Patriot's idea. They truly encourage recycling to the greatest degree possible.

We rented one from Patriot about a year ago ($25). Makes a BIG difference. A lot less stuff blowing up and down the street. Doesn't take up that much space. In the end, probably saves their crew some time, as they're only dumping one container rather than 2-3 (which our neighbors seem to have). And, they're not chasing pieces down the street.

I wonder how much patriot gets for the recycled items we sort for them. Seems like the costs should go down if they are getting more recyclables from us. =)

I did not receive one today. If I don't currently have a toter do I need to do anything special to receive a lidded toter? Thanks

Currently most of my TH neighbors keep their small recycling bins on the deck just outside the kitchen door. It's convenient and pretty much out of view. Not so with the toters.

Will folks living in a TH be allowed to keep the new toters on their deck?

We use this inside next to our kitchen island or in the pantry and love it: [IMG]
