I'm looking for a new kennel to board our dog when we go on vacations, any recommendations?

    Thanks!

If your dog appreciates exercise and the comforts of home, Ivandale Farms Pet Lodge in Hamilton is a home from home. No cages, no extra fees for exercise or outdoor play. http://www.ivandalefarms.com/kennel-main.htm If you board for two nights or more the dog also get a complimentary bath.

I searched high and low after using Stream Valley for years (last visit they boarded my senior dog in a tiny cage with no room for a bed, on the top level of a stack of cages. I was disgusted). I also use Woofies - if you need overnight care, they will accommodate you beyond the services they describe on their website. Leslie and Amy are wonderful.

I was very happy with Ivandale Farms as well. They don't nickel and dime you with extra charges for walks or administering medicine. They let the dogs hang out together in the lobby. It is really nice.

For Dogs 25 lbs and less, Top Dog Resort in Catlett is our favorite!

If your dog is socialized, Dog Days Playcare in Chantilly is fantastic. You have to go in for an initial "dog interview", but it doesn't take long. The dogs are separated between large and small, they play all day and then crated at night (if boarding), only to get up the next day and play again. We've used them for 2x weekly playcare, as well as boarding, for over 2 years now.

I checked out Old Mill but never used them - the idea that my dog would only have access to a caged, small concrete floor area to do her business, accessed by an automatic door adjacent to her main pen and then have the poop washed away by a hose into a gutter at the back, really put me off. If you spent months training a dog to go on grass, getting her to go on concrete and against everything she knows didn't seem right.

Then you have to pay for exercise, 10 minutes at a time, in a small grassy area.

The prices are good, but sorry, didn't do it for me.

Have you thought about in home care for your dog? We have used Woofies (www.woofies.net) for about 8 years four our four dogs and four cats (yes, they deal with all of them). They come three times a day and spend extra time with the animals giving them attention, walking them or letting them play in the backyard and playing with them. Even for one animal the cost is probably close to what you would pay to board the animal, but for the number we have it is far cheaper. Plus, we know our animals are not stressed out, don't risk getting sick or learning bad habits in a kennel and are getting individual attention.

Another vote for Dog Days Playcare! Joyce owner is very hands on, larger dogs get a run not crate, and the can play all day at daycare :)
