Looking for anyone who can help with securing a job within the schools system after relocating here.

    Thanks!

Is there a particular kind of job you are looking for other than teaching? LCPS is constantly posting new job ads in several areas (http://www.lcps.org/Page/1116).

If teaching is what you are looking for, then applying for a substitute teacher position is the best route. Additionally, set up an appointment with the career counselor at the local colleges (NVCC, GWU, or Shenandoah Univ, GWU and Shenandoah have campuses in Ashburn/Leesburg) and talk to them about getting the necessary certifications for the teaching positions. A couple of years ago when my wife was looking - the certification requirements were a couple of tests (Praxis?), and a few mandatory courses which would have taken about 9 months for her to do. Those requirements have likely changed since then, as well as may be slightly different based on your experience. I recently read somewhere that VA now needs much lesser coursework....

If you have children attending school, have a chat with the principal of that school... maybe he/she has some need to fill?

    hope this helps..

    Good luck in your search!

The tests are: Praxis I or SAT equivilant, Praxis II, VCLA, and RVE. For your licensure- four years of undergraduate and one year of graduate school. Also, they've changed the law on civics/history requirement-you may be required to take one 3 credit course in VA history and gov't depending on what catalog you are going by. Hope this helps :) I'm almost graduated from undergrad and will be starting my graduate year next fall.
