The Halloween Parade was dropped from events because there are already 2 other Halloween events.
If there is interest in doing something on Saturday the 27th, it is not too late to pull something off. You would just need a couple of sponsors by Monday or Tuesday since the budget has been set for everything else and there is not money for this one. And like 12 volunteers.

That's disappointing, since the other two events encompass children from grade 3 and up - there is NOTHING for our preschoolers and younger elementary kids. The Halloween parade has been their "must do" event every year - they love getting a preview of their friends' costumes and getting to celebrate in a relaxed environment.

Since nothing was on the calendar, we've made other plans for next weekend, but I sincerely hope that this event will be back on the schedule next year. Most community events either explicitly exclude our youngest kids, as do the two Halloween events that were kept, or exclude them via schedule - movie night is too late, Broadlands Live is good for an hour or so tops (and is too loud for my kids to tolerate, sadly) - but this and the Easter parade bring out the youngest kids in droves, and they love it.

The community has added a carnival for kids that has been very popular. There are minimal activities for the kids grade 3 and up, and we probably need to add more teen involvement/activities. The little ones have a good amount of activities on the calendar. I liked the parade too, but it makes sense to preserve the activity that is for the 3rd grade and up group in this instance.
The newsletter has solicited for volunteers for the events committee, and I know there were MANY (loud) announcements at Broadlands Live.
The kids will all get to trick or treat on Halloween and have a great time! Not sure if you have tried it yet, but Laynggs Flower Arm on Evergreen Mills is my fave pumpkin patch to take the little ones to.
    Have an awesome fall!

Aww, I was just thinking this morning that we needed to see when this was going to be held so just jumped on to see if it was being advertised somewhere. So sorry to see this thread and hear the parade has been cancelled. :( We have attended it with our children for the past 10 years and always enjoy seeing all of the kids in the costumes. What are the other 2 Halloween events? Maybe we'll check those out instead.

When was this decided? Why wasn't the community told before now? The Tech Committee was planning for the parade, good thing we didn't put our orders in.

Thanks! I only volunteer on adult events so I'm not involved with these, but I can get you to the right person on the committee. Anyone else? Step up and enjoy volunteering! it really is easy and fun, and it's the only way events in this community happen. :)
