2 children in Broadlands around Ridgeway have reported walking in the neighborhood and being shot at by a BB Gun. One victim has described the shooter as a black male with a beard driving a small black Toyota pickup. The other victim didn't know where the shots came from, but upon hearing about the other shooting, recalled walking past a black male with a beard just before he was shot in the hand. he could be as young as an older teenager but according to the kids, he didn't look "old like his parents' age"

Both children are physically fine, but obviously traumatized that someone would take shots at them in their neighborhood.

PLEASE STAY ALERT AND REPORT TO THE POLICE IF YOU SEE A TRUCK OR MAN FITTING THIS DESCRIPTION.

Anyone with further information should immediately contact Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Please share this information with every family you know in Ashburn- he could be in ANY of our neighborhoods today, not just Broadlands.

I don't what WHAT would compel someone to shoot at ELELMENTARY and MIDDLE SCHOOL aged children, but the sicko needs to be caught before he traumatizes any more kids or causes SERIOUS physical harm! see something, SAY SOMETHING.

**I'm not sharing any more specific details to protect their location and identities- specific location doesn't matter since this guy is mobile.**

Yes, yesterday's incident was reported. I am not sure if this morning's incident (near Stone Hollow) has been reported.

I would like to coordinate the HOA's response with LCSO, but need to know the details. So far, all reports I have found online only attribute this to anonymous sources. If anyone with direct knowledge of the events will contact me, I would appreciate it.

Use steve a-t millerhousehold d-o-t com.

    Thanks.

I just got off the phone with the Sheriff's Office. Officer stated that there was a report of a child being shot with a BB gun near Ridgeway/Heritage Oak around 6pm yesterday. No medical attention was needed and a description matching what Redon posted was given.
He did not mention any incident this morning.

Unfortunately, there was another incident this morning at around 8am. A 5th grade girl who lives on Stone Hollow Dr. was walking back home from the corner of Ridgeway Dr. and Stone Hollow Dr. and she was passed by a small black pickup truck. The truck did a u-turn and she used her code and ran into her garage. The truck parked in front of her house and waited. The girl confirmed that a black man was driving the truck. Please all. Keep your eyes open and try to get a license plate.

PLEASE open your bilnds if you are home and look outside! If you see this truck call the police.

I called my friend and asked her to email you directly if she wants to give more specifics. It's on my FB page but not sure I want to share that here.

Sheriff's Office confirmed they are sending out additional patrol cars this afternoon and before school (starting next week). If anyone sees a truck or person matching the description, they are to call 911 (not the non-emergency number).

I'll also add, that the person is not always in his car, he has been spotted on foot (walking on Ridgeway). Black man with a beard, driving a "smaller black truck".

    Thanks, PowerPlay.

I have just been on the phone with Deputy Crowe and Deputy Troxell of the Sheriff's office. They were able to confirm taking a report yesterday, from a Broadlands resident in the vicinity of Heritage Oak Ct., stating that their eleven-year-old son told them he had been struck by BB pellets. Deputy Troxell added that the boy reported seeing a black truck.

I asked about any second event, either yesterday or this morning, in the vicinity of Stone Hollow. Both Deputy Crowe and Deputy Troxell said they had no report of a second incident.

I have also been on the phone with Paul Vickers, principal of Mill Run Elementary. He told me his SRO, Deputy Ressler, is in contact with the LCSO HQ about this and is actively monitoring the area around the school. I will be meeting with Mr. Vickers and Deputy Ressler this afternoon, as school closes. I will also check with Deputy Troxell later today, to see if any further incidents are confirmed.

Please use judgment and discretion when repeating reports you hear from others. As parents, we will want to do whatever we can to keep our children safe. That should include protecting against the damage that can be done by rumors that turn out to be innaccurate.

The only confirmed report we know of is a single incident last night, near Heritage Oak. The Sheriff's office is fully aware of all information we have and will, of course, be taking any other reports if and when they do come in.

I recommend we trust them to take appropriate steps at this point.

Anyone who acquires additional first-hand knowledge should, naturally, pass what they know to LCSO. Genuine emergencies always warrant a call to 911. If you have information to pass to them, their non-emergency number is 703-777-1021.

If I gain confirmation from official sources on anything else relevant, I will post it here.

This is the issue I see now. He knows we know, so he'll be moving on to another school. If the sheriff is so short sighted that he will not issue a "Loudoun Alert" he's making a mistake.

But really Stevens, what 'damage can be done' by being extra viligant? Pointing even a toy gun at someone can get you killed. I'm hoping this whack job won't escalate now that he's tested the waters.

I think we're playing semantics here. The girl this morning was aware of her surroundings but she did not actually get shot at w/ the BB gun so therefore it would not be a "BB gun incident".

What's important is that we're on the lookout, for our kids and our neighbors to catch this person, whether you live around Mill Run or any of the other schools.

I agree that an alert should go out to Mill Run and the surrounding areas.

I have heard from a resident by e-mail that her neighbor's daughter reported an encounter with a black truck this morning. The resident is encouraging that neighbor to report this to LCSO now. If I obtain confirmation of a report, I'll post that here.

Anyone can, of course, call LCSO and ask for information. I do hope that anyone contributing information here or elsewhere will offer a way to confirm that info whenever they can.

There is no harm in vigilance. I would like to caution against the danger that can be caused by innaccurate information. Remember the DC sniper? We heard, over and over, that he had a white van. People with white vans were all suspects. In the end, there was no white van. Meanwhile, one of my immediate neighbors has already sent out an e-mail, suggesting he is ready to start shooting if he sees this person.

Vigilance is useless if we are looking for the wrong thing, and might well endanger more innocent people, including our children, if we don't have our facts straight.

If not already done, may I suggest the General Manager be notified and have the convenants inspectors be made aware and keep an eye out.
