Found pitbull

He is without a collar. Call the Loudoun Animal Shelter at 7037770406 for my #. If I don't have him, they will because they are scheduled to pick him up this afternoon. They will put him down after 3 weeks, and they can't adopt out pitbulls. I hope this message finds you

Please call the shelter. He was mainly brown, with a hint of white and black. Very friendly. Pretty confident it was a pitbull, but I could be wrong.

 

Does the shelter check for chips? I know vets do. It would be pretty sad if the owner had chipped the animal, but the shelter didn't check....

 

Most vets would check for a chip for no cost. I hope the dog isn't euthanized for lack of checking for a microchip. And a picture would have helped, because a neighbor may have been able to identify the dog in case the owner doesn't follow these forums.

 

The shelter did check for a chip (and the dog may be back in the hands of the owner for all I know) -but with that said, the fact the dog was without a collar is moronic, unless of course it got off the leash and collar both at once. Furthermore, if the owner does not have the sense to check with the shelter, that is just that much more moronic. I fully intend to follow up in a week or so personally- I'd hate to see him get put down. I bet I could find a home for him before it got to that point, and perhaps may be able to bypass the "no adoption of pitbulls rule" since I had him in my custody and turned him in. Everything has been considered

 

I believe their policy is once you surrender an animal or turn it in for whatever reason, you can not get it back unless you are claiming it as your lost pet.
