Just a reminder that the final adoption meeting is Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30pm at the School Admin Building. Wear white to show your support of Plan 12.

    Hi folks-
As you know, I have represented Broadlands regarding school boundary issues for many years while on the HOA Board. I am proud of the success I have had in keeping Broadlands kids in the schools within our community.

For those that have been following the process, there have been many plans submitted. Various communities would support whatever plans met their needs. This was making it difficult to see a clear consensus. I decided to use a strategy that has worked so well in the past....getting multiple communities to band together to support the one plan that makes sense for the most communities. That is Plan 12.

I have been able to get 9 different HOA Boards to officially endorse this plan. We also have residents from other communities that could not get their Board endorsement coming out in support of Plan 12 as well. Our HOA VP, Eric Bazerghi, will be presenting this letter tonight.

If you can make it to the meeting tonight, wear white.

I would like to thank Traci Tyo who has been instrumental in helping me get this organized with so many communities in a short period of time. For those of you on the Keep Broadlands Together page, I felt the need to leave that venue due to the way it is being managed and the derision that this effort was met with by the Administrator.

Plan 12 (the one that serves Broadlands best) passed tonight, 7-to-2.

We all owe a major debt of gratitude to Cliff Keirce and Traci Tyo, for pulling together the coalition of nine HOAs supporting Plan 12. That clearly made a big, big difference.

Kudos go to my board colleague, Eric Bazerghi, for being an early speaker who helped drive home the message that so many communities were united in support of the plan and of the school board members who backed it.

Thanks should also go to Kevin Kuesters, who represents most of Broadlands on the school board. Kevin was deft in his work on building a majority, showing some real political acumen (with a bit of help from our other local rep, Eric Hornberger).

A truly fine job of community activism, done with class and restraint by the people who made it happen. I'm really proud to be a Broadlands resident and parent tonight.

Thank you Cliff, Traci, and Eric! Congratulations to all involved that helped make this happen! This is a huge win for Broadlands and ultimately the kids that will go to Briar Woods. I'll make sure to vote for Kevin for school board in our district.

In our case we have one in kindergarten; I'm guessing there will be many new high schools and boundary fights by the time he gets to high school.

I sometimes miss the old days when I was in high school. We only had Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Broad Run and Parkview. Loudoun was also very boring back then :)

I think thanks should also be given to the entire Keep Broadlands Together group, particularly Joy Maloney and Erika Cotti and all of the neighborhood stewards who kept the community informed, organized and energized. This was a true COMMUNITY effort, not just one or two individuals.

Let's remind everyone that yes indeed it was a community effort. A group collaboration and not just the work of 1 or 2 people.

Thank you Cliff, Traci and Eric for the coordinated efforts with other HOA's, gathering their support and for representing Broadlands.

Thank you Erika Cotti and Joy Malone on our "Keep Broadlands Together" Facebook page for gathering data, crunching numbers, contacting School Board members and MOST IMPORTANTLY providing timely information to the rest of us. Your efforts although may seem as behind the scenes were also instrumental to our success.

Thank you to all the DN Stewards for spreading the information to your neighbors and other residents who may have otherwise been completely unaware of what was happening.

Thank you too ALL the speakers at ALL the public sessions for speaking on behalf of our community. You each made a difference.

Thank you to all the petition letter takers (including Erika and Joy) who painstakingly went home to home gathering signatures.

Thank you to our School Board rep Kevin Kuesters for coming up with a rational plan that serve the needs of his constituents.

And finally thank you to each and every resident for paying attention and doing your part in writing emails/making calls to the school board.

It was truly a GROUP EFFORT!!!!! Good job everyone :)

Yes, the email efforts of those on the Keep Broadlands Together page was very well done. Folks did a great job of addressing the issues and keeping their comments professional.

According to the school board docs, it looks like the Eagle Ridge principal will be moving to Trailside middle school, effective 7/1/13.

The petition brought by Richard Kelsey to have the school board's boundary decision overturned was denied today in Circuit Court. Only remaining legal option for him is an appeal to the state supreme court, which I think would be unlikely to accept the case, and even more unlikely to reverse the Circuit Court's decision.

The effect of today's decision is that the school board's adoption of Plan 12 remains unchanged. A reporter from Leesburg Today was present for the hearing, so a story will probably appear there soon.
