Wouldn't your HUD or settlement statement be a valid proof of purchase for the home if you were a second owner?

@Overwatch Broadlands, I believe the proof of purchase that they are looking for here is for the shutters, not the house. I do understand that you buy the shutters on the house when you buy the house, but that's not what the shutter manufacturer is looking for. I believe it's a loophole that they employ to avoid having to give everyone free replacement shutters.

I agree and the manufacturer specifically asked me if I was first owner or follow up owner of the house and they specifically asked for the receipts for the shutters, which I do not have so they closed my case without further discussion. They also told me that they can confirm whether you are original homeowner or not through government tax record database. They also can always call on Van Metre to find out whether you are original owner or not. Sigh.

We are replacing our shutters and were told we did not qualify for the full replacement (we are second owners). We had to order new ones.

If your shutters are no longer covered under the warranty then why don't you just paint them?

The paint does not hold well onto the shutters and we were told if we were to do this, we would probably need to repaint every year. The person in the HOA office said that residents who have painted their shutters have had a difficult time keeping them looking good. She said they just sent out a lot of notices and many of those were to residents that chose to paint their shutters instead of replacing them (I guess the peeling was noticeable).

We were not the original owners and we got ours replaced under warranty, but this was almost 2 years ago. Perhaps they've changed their policy.

It may have changed because they also quoted a 10 year limitation
