    Audubon Naturalist Society is looking for a Broadlands Nature Center Naturalist

    Position: Broadlands Nature Center Naturalist,
    regular part-time, 25 hours a week, including one Saturday per month

    Summary: Provide environmental education in a local nature center. Develop and lead programs for children and families both on site and in the surrounding area, provide interactive and educational materials for nature center visitors, and care for animals in nature center.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    • plan and conduct Audubon Naturalist at Broadlands environmental education programs including family, scout, afterschool, preschool and summer camp programs at Broadlands Nature Center and surrounding area.
    • hold regular naturalist office hours according to a fixed schedule at the Broadlands Nature Center for at least 20 hours per week.
    • provide care and cleaning for nature center animals including turtles, rabbits, and snake
    • assist ANS Rust Nature Sanctuary education coordinator in planning and conducting additional programming at Broadlands beyond the set 25 hour schedule, including afterschool programs, birthday parties, summer camps, etc.
    • Promote Audubon Naturalist society programs at Broadlands and Rust through social media, website, newsletters, and email.
    • Produce schedule of programs and regular natural history articles for publication in the Broadlands Association newsletter and other venues
    • conduct one weekend program per month
    • maintain rotating hands on interactive nature center displays, exhibits, live animals, and program supplies
    • answer public queries about natural history in the Broadlands community
    • work with Broadlands Association staff to identify and pursue funding opportunities for the Broadlands Nature Center
    • provide regular reports on Broadlands Nature Center operations (numbers of programs, participants, expenditures, etc.) to BHOA Manager and monthly newsletter stories to Broadlands Association, Inc. recruit, train, and manage nature center volunteers
    • provide excellent customer service to the Broadlands community and center staff
    Desired Qualities:
    • Experience with natural history of Virginia
    • Experience working/teaching in an outdoor setting
    • Experience handling and caring for live animals
    • Ability to work independently
    • Outgoing and friendly
    • Organized and ability to multitask
    • Excellent communication skills
    • CPR/First Aid Certified (or the ability to become within 1 month of hire)
