It's been a while since this thread was updated and with all the new salons opening around here, I thought it would be a good time to get new recommendations and/or opinions (good and bad). I'm particularly interested in someone who knows color and has a knack for short precision type cuts.

    Thank you!

Mellany at Rain Salon and Spa, located in the Ashburn Farm shopping center (near Giant and The Little Gym). She is great with texturizing short hair, and she is definitely the best colorist I've ever worked with.

    Good luck!

Dianne Lang, owner, at Bristles and Shears. She is quite good as is much of her staff. She has cut my hair for the past 4 years. Bristles-Shears.com.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. It's difficult to find a stylist with the skills for short precision cuts.

I don't recommend Salon Vie. She ran late one night and over processed my hair and blamed it on my hairdryer. A visit to Modern Concept and Anna Michelle (owner) confirmed what I suspected. Overprocessed. Took several haircuts and deep conditioning to fix. Love Modern Concepts.

I know a great stylist who does hair from her home here in Broadlands. She also works in a high end salon in Reston as well. PM me if you're interested.

I agree, Diane from Bristles and Shears is great!! However, it takes forever to get an appt. with her. Once you get in, make sure you make your appt. for the next one before you leave, otherwise, you'll have a long wait.

Has anyone ever done Keratin Express at HairPort salon? I thought there was a previous thread about keratin but I can't find it. Or anyone have experience with keratin? Thanks.

Does anyone have recommendations for a stylist that specializes in Brazilian Blowout?

Does anyone have updates for a good salon for a color and cut. I tried Rain and really didn't like it. I've also tried Modern Concepts and the stylist I've used several times now does a horrible job with the color. I'm specifically fed up with stylists who do what they want without discussing it with me. Who do you use?

I was not a fan of Rain either. My stylist did a great job with color, but when I told her that I didn't want to straighten it during the blow-dry/styling she had NO clue what to do with my curly hair. It was sad. I finally just said forget it, straighten it. That said, she did do a nice job straightening - it's just not what I wanted.

Hair salons can be tricky. Our HR assistant used to work in the industry and she said it was not uncommon for stylists to purposely give a bad cut or color when they tired of their clients. It's hard enough trusting someone new to cut your hair so always ask for a consultation first especially if you have a difficult style or hair.

Looking for someone who does a great double process. Base color and highlights. Any recommendations?

I gave Current Salon a try a few months ago and really liked it. It is in the same shopping center as Mediterranean Breeze. Samer did my hair and I think it's the best color I ever had. I had a cut, color, and highlights. I have lots of hard to cover gray. It was different from any other salon that I've been to in that other stylists worked as a team and offered opinions when we were discussing color. I will go back.

    Current Salon: 703.724.9444

Anyone have experience with a stylist that can be creative with a great cut? I do have straight hair, but that experience isn't necessarily important. Thank you!

Dianne Lang of Bristles was great! She emphasized constant training of her staff and always stood behind her work trying to keep her customers happy. I started with her when she opened Bristles about 17 years ago. Unfortunately, she was forced to abruptly sell the salon due to serious illness. Shortly thereafter the salon closed. I've followed a couple of her other stylists this past year but haven't been satisfied. Recently I made an expensive mistake trying Current Salon and Color Bar. Current Salon used dark ash cool tones on my warm complexion and then corrected it to blond ash. I spent the next two weeks travelling around the country applying drugstore boxed dyes in hotel rooms to try and correct this fiasco. Can anyone recommend a reliable stylist for shorter hair who can cut hair well and has excellent understanding of color?
