    That's very cool indeed. The 2kw output limit will mean that most homes would require 2+ Powerwalls. Definitely a nice solution for those completely off the grid; however if you have an electric company that supports 'net metering', you can simply use the grid as your storage device .. at no cost.

    I don't know that I heard him discuss it but it could be a good option for unstable power grids. Cost is similar to a NG generator system, although the Powerwall couldn't match the generator option in power output.

    Right but, I believe there are at least half a dozen venture capital firms in a race to develop a better battery. Future is very bright for battery power for homes.

    The 'market' and 'policy' will determine its success (or failure). It's light years away when you consider the formidable opposition it will face...starting with the utility companies and then the fossil fuel companies. But it offers some hope for a warming planet...

    I dont think neither the power nor the fossil fuel industries can stop growth of battery powered industry. The main reason is, battery powered industry is aimed directly at consumers. The battery technology is growing rapidly. Automobile industries just have to adopt the new power source.

    According to the report in Green Car Reports, battery prices have dropped to $300 /kWh which was not expected until 2020. Once the price drops to $100/kWh, electric cars become competitive to gasoline cars. In the next 3-5 years, we can see doubling o tripling of storage capacity and reduction in size of the batteries.

    They can slow it down as they did for years with the auto industry - fortunately, that's changing. They have the capital and lobbyists to influence policy. Look how aggressive they've been with renewables. They have nothing good to say about clean energy. As I said, the market and policy will determine Tesla's success but it won't be an easy battle.
