I went here last week and didn't like it. (Note, I am a vegetarian, but my husband is not; he didn't like it either.) The food was very oily and overly rich.

Agree about the oil part. I ordered the pastrami sandwich and the bread was burnt pretty bad. Wife ordered a burger and did not like it either.
Service was very slow. They did serve us a free bowl of mac and cheese and that was very tasty.

We went there 2 months ago for dinner and it was ok.
    My wife and i ordered

    2 Apps
    1 chicken pot pie fritters
    1 Deviled eggs.

I liked both apps.. They were very tasty.

    Meals.
    1 house pastrami sandwich
    1 rainbow trout

The pastrami sand was a bit oily but i liked it. My wife had the trout and could only eat half, she said it was too heavy. I tasted it and it was pretty decent.

Not a place were i would eat once a week. More of a place to visit once every 3 months.

We've been twice. Both times we enjoyed the food. But the service is terrible for the fact it is supposed to be about a "family meal". This to me implies bring your children. I have a well behaved child who is used to going out to nice restaurants, but both dinners here have broken the 90 minute mark and that isn't really what I'm looking for with their type of menu. We've already returned to our habits of Blue Ridge Grill or Ford's Fish Shack for upscale casual.

Underwhelming and meh is what comes to mind about my experience at Family Meal. I had deviled eggs that tasted like what I make at home and a green salad that was expensive for what it was (lettuce, spinach, peas, and cucumbers). The chicken pot pie fritters were nice and different, but desserts were quite small for the cost. All in all, there are better options around town.

I've been twice. Most recent visit was for lunch and I had the 4 pc fried chicken with buttermilk biscuits, pickles, hot sauce. The chicken was fall off the bone perfect, the breading was crisp, just needed to add a little salt. There was nothing special about the hot sauce so I didn't add it to the chicken. The biscuits were good. Pickles aren't my thing. I also ordered the seasoned fried kennebec potatoes, which came with a malt vinegar aioli that was yummy. I skipped desert because I just didn't want to pay $8.99 for a brownie sundae. The service was top notch. I enjoyed both visits enough to want to go back, but I won't be a frequent patron. I'm more excited about Matchbox coming.

We've dined there twice, both times underwhelming and quite frankly over priced. I doubt I'll visit again. I had the Fried chicken once and it was less than desirable dry and really salty, My wife had the chopped salad with chicken and it was meh. The next time we tried the breakfast menu thinking it may be a better breakfast place, swing and a miss again.
