We are thinking of getting a fresh tree for the first time in many years. Where is the best place to go? Any recommendations if we decide to go to a cut-your-own tree farm? How much can we expect to pay?

    Thanks!

Not a cut-your-own farm but if you don't care as much for the 'experience' its really hard to beat the convenience and cost of Home Depot. Have had good luck with trees staying reasonably fresh through the season from here, though won't be as long lasting as fresh cut.

We picked ours up from Country Loving Christmas Tree Farm. It is the closest cut-your-own tree farm to Broadlands. You can cut your own or they have a few hauled in from higher elevations (different types then they grow). We ended up buying one of the pre-cut trees, it was very fresh and has been drinking tons of water (a good sign). Think we ended up paying $50 for a 8-9 foot tree.

We goto Snickers Gap Christmas Tree Farm: West on Rt 7. After Round Hill but before you get to Bluemont on the right: 34350 Williams Gap Rd, Round Hill, VA 20141.
Family has been going there for 10+ years so it is nice to get pictures and compare with years past. I will be the first to admit that the economics don't make sense. Home Depot / CostCo trees cost $40 - $50. By going to Snickers Gap you cut out the middle man, reduce their harvesting and delivery costs and my just under 8 foot tree was $105. Maybe because CostCo buys trees from a corporate tree mills/farm and my tree is a free range organic tree (just made that part up, but always good to start the day with a good rationalization :)

Think I may look at Country Loving next year.

We usually go to Meadow Farms on Route 50 near South Riding. Same cost range as the ones above but a really good variety of sizes.

Yea, got ours from Costco.... $29.97 for a 7' Douglas Fir. Hard to beat on price and convenience but it is not for everyone and you have to be a member.
