Graffitti in Broadlands

Just saw the latest Broadlands Blast email. There is a link to a Graffitti Workshop being held at the Nature Center. Is this for real? Are there really people who are going to spend $150 to teach their nine-year-olds how to vandalize the neighborhood? There's a topic in this very forum about who to contact to report graffitti in Broadlands.

Who on earth thought this would be a good idea?

 

My husband and I had the same thought!

 

My wife & I also had the same thought. I wrote a detailed comment on the HOA facebook page to no response & its not posted anymore. I'm sure this means our HOA fees will rise again in 2017 when we have to pay for weekly tunnel cleanups! Maybe concerned parents should show up on the spot and let them know how we feel?

 

Perhaps this sponsored graffiti is much like what large cities do. Let these kids do their art work in a tasteful way and just maybe that alleviates the desire to do "unwanted" graffiti.

 

I didn't realize that anyone in Broadlands actually "wanted" graffiti.

 

I don't. That is why I live here and not in the city. I like my nature unspoiled by someone painting giant.

 

Yeah, those tunnels are pure "unspoiled nature". They also get graffiti'd often... so why not graffiti that is deemed appropriate and done by Broadlands residents?

So what happens when people graffiti over the sponsored graffiti? This just seems like a bad idea all the way around.

If you want to spruce up the tunnels then by all means have the board discuss it. I am sure no one would object to hearing ideas.

 

BAD graffiti happens often enough already! As for sprucing up concrete walls, can you think of anything better than "nice" graffiti? Sure, some will paint over parts but overall a tunnel full of good art will certainly outweigh the occasional "tagging". Or maybe we should fill up the tunnels to prevent any graffiti. Yeah, that's the ticket!
