Hello! I have Verizon Fios in my new home and need help getting the internet set up - looking for recommendations on who to call for this kind of service.

The outlet for the router is in the master bedroom, so I plugged it in and the Fios is working great but I'm now working on wifi and my son has run cat5 cable down the hallway to his room. There's no phone jack in that room so the Ooma phone can only ring in the master bedroom. I have a room downstairs that is an office but has no outlets for the router or cat5 cable or phone.

I guess I need someone to tell us the best location for the router, install an outlet there, and fish cable from there to rooms where we need wired connections.

Is this a job for Verizon, or an electrician, or a handyman, or what? Recommendations appreciated, thanks!

A licensed electrician is your best option. Recommend Craig at Ashburn Electric 703-858-7332.

Your router from Verizon is what you are using for wireless? Do you know what wireless speed you are getting? If it is a new router, then I would guess it is fast enough for pretty much any use you would have... and you could avoid having to pay the expense to run wires.

You son should be able to play games and watch Netflix with Wireless. I would just make sure you really need a wired connection before opening holes in you house... especially if you have custom painted walls. tough to match colors.

And if you are using an IP phone this should be wireless too... at least back to the base station. The base station should be wireless too. If you have a network set up on your Fios, all should connect to that...

    Food for thought.
