I think Skinks are fairly common in Virginia but this is the first time in almost 12 years that I have seen one on my property... I enjoyed finding him in my shed. Not sure who got scared first but I had my phone with me so the kids got a kick out of the "Lizard" living at our house.

Lucky you! Seventeen years and not one sighting yet, but I still walk the yard before mowing the grass, just in case...

Yes I too do that in my back yard...chased away several snakes that way but the best was a pair of mating Box Turtles. Yes, I say to my daughter, they're "wrestling"....

We had a few last year. First time I had seen them as well in 13 years. Last year we also had two garter snakes in the yard. Skinks I can handle, snakes I can't. The snake kept showing up wherever I was working in the yard freaking me out. My family had a good laugh

This ran across my porch, and my foot. Don't know if it's a skink or some other lizards creature. Had a green head.

Yea those are all skinks. Very cool and harmless. Now I am being overrun by chipmunks and squirrels. I made the mistake of growing a sunflower on my deck this year... so that seems to have added to the excitement now that the seeds have appeared. And one particular squirrel has become obsessed with digging in all of our plants on our second level deck... messy, but funny.

I have a couple of chipmunks/squirrels visit my deck too. I have several potted plants. Digs around in all of them! In late fall/early winter, they decide my deck pots are a great place to stash stuff for the winter. Each spring I repot my plants, and move the pots around. and their stash isnt where they stored it anymore, but they dont give up looking! Messy, but no longer funny!
