Be on the lookout for the walker of a large dog (estimated by the size of the dog waste) in the one block area of:

Avonworth Square between Dilworth Square and Coulwood Terrace
Coulwood Terrace between Dilworth Square and Avonworth Square
Dilworth Square between Coulwood Terrace and Avonworth Square

For the last several weeks, there has been an increase in the dog waste not picked up by the dog walker(s). For the sake of the neighbors and other dog walkers in that area, I have routinely picked up the dog waste that has been left behind.

If you see the dog walker(s), please let him/her know that the HOA provides free bags in a dispenser on Avonworth Square between Dilworth Square and Coulwood Terrace (steps away from some of the dog waste that I have picked up). If you PM me a name/picture of the person/dog, I will even provide the dog walker with a free bag dispenser to attach to his/her dog leash.

Neighbors have identified two people so far, each with a small/medium-size dogs. We are still looking out for that large dog and anyone else who doesn't feel that it is necessary to pick up after the dog he or she is walking.

For more information about scooping the poop, refer to the January 2018 Broadlands newsletter (page 7): https://www.broadlandshoa.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/JAN-18.pdf

Good luck changing folk's behavior. For the last several weeks, 3 dogs have been roaming off leash in the wetlands area behind Harvest Green and Welby Terrace. When I approached one of the dogs with a leash, he took off running. Just today, had to pick up poop deposited in my yard. When I called animal control, I was told they could not respond unless I had the owner's address. They also said they will make a note in case the owner calls them looking for their dogs. This is a problem throughout the community.

Because it has been such a problem in just a one block radius, there have been multiple neighbors on those streets keeping alert, which us how the two people were identified. I know that someone had called animal control and also was told about needing the address. Nonetheless, once the two people were identified, the address was also identified.

Thank you to all the responsible dog owners in the community. It is too bad that people just don't care though and we have to go through this.

I have been a dog owner for a couple of years now. I have noticed that the number of instances of dog waste left has gone up since the past summer.
More number of dogs, or rather more number of lazy, irresponsible dog owners.

btw, a couple of months back, I did get yelled at by a 'good' citizen at 7 AM (who slowed down their car on Claiborne) to pick up the poop, else they would report me. Mine is a female who just finished peeing and we were walking away. I guess that just ticked off someone who thought I was not picking up the poop.
