I had another door spring break on me today and after watching the guy do it last time I think I can do this repair myself and save $500. Only problem is I can't find the receipt from 2016 and I'm not sure what spring I need. Anyone replace one recently and know what the size is?

    Thanks

I think these are 110 pound springs. I found a chart online and I'm pretty sure they have white ends. This is for a single side of a two car garage.

    500? Ouch

I've had Door Doctor VA out twice in the past years... and both times it was under $150 total for my repairs. https://www.doordoctorva.com/

Yeah, I don't remember the company I used last time but it was $200 for the parts, 100 for the install, and 200 for the "adjustment" which was screwing the cable into the same spot. I was heading out of town so didn't have time to argue.

I think I found the right spring on amazon. $25 for the pair

DURA-LIFT Heavy Duty Extension Garage Door Spring 2-Pack (110 lb.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071KD3K7D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_9T7VAbMDQ9TEV

The ones home Depot sells are apparently 120 and not 110 as labeled. Gonna give it a go. Not too hard to replace after watching the guy.

pretty sure I had a spring replaced in those prices... for sure I know they've replaced the pullies. But not gonna dig out the invoices from years ago :) I just remember it actually being a service call I actually was impressed with... vs the typical "could you at least use some lube??" experience most trade service calls are now...

I did ask for a quote from the company just to see what they would charge. It's a good idea to replace both springs at the same time as they usually wear pretty evenly. Hopefully have the parts early this week. Will update on how it goes.

That spring I linked above probably won't work. It's a 25 inch spring for a 7 foot door. My door is 8 foot and needs a spring 32 inches long. It's not easy to find those on amazon. These are the best I have found so far

    https://www.amazon.com/Garage-Door-Parts-Extension-8ft-high/dp/B00BWUJ69S?th=1

Seems the 32 inch springs are being phased out for 27 inch springs with the same pull.

As much as I would like to do this myself it seems the local hardware stores don't stock springs for 8 foot doors at all (how is that possible). Choices on amazon are few and far between. I found some on other sites but they are all the 27 inch ones and some of these places want more than the spring in shipping. I may just end up getting one of the companies to do it. If only I could remember who I used last time and not have them do it again.

I called door doctor this morning and they quoted $195 out the door to replace the pair of springs. Cheaper than the other companies I called by almost $100. They will be out this afternoon. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the referal

I gotta give Door Doctor 5 stars on this one. The tech was awesome. They charged exactly what was quoted and not a penny more. Work was done quickly and the tech was very friendly. I'll definitely use them again

Good to hear they are still reasonable. They really stood out to me because their prices were reasonable and it was really a pleasant experience in my cases. Both the tech and the 'business' side of things were very comforting... which is not what I can say about most service calls these days.

I just had my springs replaced by American Joe. Their prices were better, the tech was great, he gave me maintenance tips and even corrected a bad previous repair (old homeowner) he found at no charge. I can't say enough good things about this company.
