On Monday, May 14, 2018, Patriot Disposal will begin servicing the single-family units in Broadlands with Automated Side Loader Trucks. What does this mean to you? Typical trucks have one or two laborers travel on the back of the truck picking up trash from the street by hand and emptying it into the back of the truck for compacting. An automated side loader has an electronic arm that extends from the passenger’s side of the truck to grab and lift the trash can and dump its contents into the top of the truck for compacting. This will require some minor adjustments in the way trash is placed curbside as well as parking near the curbside bins. Please click on the following to review these key items: AUTOMATED SIDE LOADER INFO

I doubt this will work out because so many people and their neighbors park along the curbs next to their homes where the garbage bins are located next to the vehicles. From what I can see in the flyer, the huge truck is going to be driving on the streets and stopping next to the cars that are in the street next to the curbs. How is Patriot Disposal going to enforce the space between the cars and the garbage bins? Both Patriot and Residents alike cannot force their neighbors to move their cars back from the bins to allow the trucks to have room to pick up the bins. So I'm guessing that many of the residents' bins will not be picked up because of the vehicles impeding/hindering the trucks from reaching to pick up the bins.

I see this is going to be an issue everywhere- I guess Patriot is trying to save money by not having that many people on staff and not paying benefits as well to those that will be "laid off" as a result of using these automated loading trucks.

Yup and I can see that the Robos will malfunction by the number of bins left unemptied. Crazy to have truck driver get out back & forth to deal with bins that are hemmed in by cars parked too close to them - ha!

My mom has this service in California. The arms on the trucks are pretty long to reach the bins. It may work. Will have to see.

The other issues I see if with the cul de sacs. There is no way the turning radius and obstacles of cars will fit. And assuming this is for recycling too, what about all the other items we put for recycling, like cardboard boxes?

I've seen the truck driver working alone some days. If the side-loader frees up personnel for difficult areas such as townhouse streets and/or for recycling pick-up, then it will work.
