While I am excited to see the Fios progress continuing, Openband continues to disappoint and can’t wait to be done with them.

While Lambert contracting was pulling fiber under the street from 1 side of the cul de sac to the other in their newly laid orange conduits, our Openband internet stopped working within minutes. I opened a ticket last night with Openband who said they can’t see the media converter in our panel and set up a dispatch for today. The on-site tech did a simple fiber test to their IDF and one of the two fibers had a dim test signal compared to the other which was bright. He called his supervisor and now I have to wait for them to contract out a fiber test contractor they use to run a test and pinpoint how far from my house the signal loss actually is occurring (I asked the on-site tech if there is anyone in house to test the fiber and repair/splice it and he said they are closing out in 2 months). OB checked the box on side of house and couldn’t tell me which box in the lawn it goes to next or which way it runs down our streets.

I reported my issue to the on-site Lambert contractor supervisor for Verizon and couldn’t do much because we couldnt say where the issue is yet on my property. He said he is there daily so keep him in the loop. None of my neighbors on the cul de sac and nobody I have ask locally has had their service disrupted. So now it’s a waiting game to see how long it takes the OB supervisor to get their contractor out here. I will keep folks posted on how long this takes to get fixed and hope others don’t have the same problem as me in the future. If others have had any similar issues during the fios rollout please reply.

Just a quick update that 2 Openband techs finally arrived this morning with a contractor to test and locate the damaged fiber. Now I have to wait at least 2 days for parts and cables to get delivered and they can schedule to try and make a repair where they believe it is damaged. I appreciate that Openband is doing their best to address the issue, but they can’t identify what caused it to happen and the elapsed time to repair this has been frustrating.

Openband and Lambert’s were out today in our neighborhood pulling and splicing in a new piece of fiber between their box on our side yard and another box around the corner about 300 feet away. The fiber splicing is done but they need to do more testing on Monday to get the connection working end to end before our service is restored. Was glad to see Openband and Lambert’s were replacing the fiber together, but appears some Openband conduits got crushed as the new FIOS install came through. Another neighbor on Highview said their Internet is down now, so there will be more repairs in our neighborhood next week too. Glad to see Phase 2 of VZ FIOS is ready - but hopefully Phase 3 and 4 are not too far behind.

Final update ... OB did some more testing on Monday and confirmed there were still issues with the fiber. Another splice and test crew came out on Monday and determined the fiber from the OB box in my side yard to the fiber on side of my house also need to be replaced. They spliced in the new cable this afternoon and back in service finally. It took 13 day to repair but OB team was professional and never dropped the ball. Fingers crossed for another 1-2 months ...
