Has anybody hired a Genealogist to help with their family tree?

I'm not doing that at the moment, but the people I know who are tend to use ancestry.com and are happy with the results.

You probably know this, but the Mormons are into this big time. At the Mormon church in Ashburn [21015 Claiborne Parkway -- opposite the McDonalds] they have a Family Research center. They have computers and access to all sorts of digital and online files. I think they have an open house every Wednesday night. It's called the Family History Center. You might try them. I had a work colleague -- not a Mormon -- whose been there numerous times and is really happy with his results. Hope this helps.

Outlander, thanks for the information and they do have a lot of information at the Family History Center and the best is that it's free while you are there versus signing up for the service. I was trying to find copies of actual documents which is much harder so I'm actually interviewing various Genealogists now to see who I'll use to do the research since a lot will be overseas. Thanks again, Genco

Years ago, I inquired with Ancestry because they have a bank of professionals available and they can customize the research according to your needs. At that time, their smallest session of research for a 20-25 hour session ran $1,900-2,500. Prices go up from there depending upon the amount of hours required for your case. Customization is important, especially if you've done a lot of research already and have a starting point.

I never contracted with them because I found out some distant family members already started the process.
