They are asking for a 22% increase off peak and a 40% increase for peak times.
    What a joke.
They won’t be happy until no one uses the road .

I, for one, won’t be using Greedway ever again unless it’s an emergency. Nearly $9 is simply Highway robbery (no pun intended). I really don’t give a damn if the Corp is having financial problems but I as hell hope the proposal is shot down and I hope they go bankrupt because they are nothing but money grubbing crooks looking to take as much as they can from users of the Greedway.

Anyone have an update regarding the completion of the Shellhorn Road extension between Loudoun County Parkway and Lockridge Road?

I'll continue to use the Greenway for convenience plus it's subsidized by my employer. As for road conditions, you can't find tax funded roads maintained as well as Greenway. You never even know when they're repaving since it's done at night.

It cant happen soon enough. The following is copied from Loudoun County Transportation projects:
    Background of Shellhorn Road Extension
Shellhorn Road will be extended to become a collector road along the north side of the Dulles Greenway. Shellhorn road currently begins in the west at Waxpool Road and ends at Loudoun County Parkway. Shellhorn Road is being extend eastward, parallel to the Dulles Greenway, until it reaches existing Lockridge Road. From there, Shellhorn Road will turn to the south and follow the alignment of Lockridge Road until it reaches the northernmost property line of Dulles Airport. This portion of the Shellhorn Road extension will extend Shellhorn south by the northern entrance to the Loudoun Gateway Silver Line station, then east to connect with the Sterling Blvd. extension.

    • This project is funded through local funding and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA).
    Estimated Timeline
    • Summer 2021 - Fall 2023: Design
    • Winter 2023 - Fall 2023: Right of Way
    • Winter 2024 - Fall 2024: Utilities Relocation
    • Winter 2024 - Summer 2024: Procurement of Construction Contractor
    • Summer 2024: Award Contract – Construction
    • Summer 2024: Notice to Proceed – Construction
    • Summer 2024 - Spring 2026: Construction
    • Spring 2026: Substantial Completion

The SCC is made up of three geezers in Richmond that has rubber-stamped every requested increase for two decades.

One of the criteria to deny an increase request is if it would cause a substantial increase in traffic on nearby roads. Maybe those geezers should spend an afternoon on the Waxpool Road parking lot.

Sadly, the argument could be made that the Greenway is a bargain. Ever see the variable tolling prices on the HOV lanes for 66, 395, 495, or 95? During rush hour it could cost upwards of $20 to get from Springfield to Quantico. Yeah it's a bit further than Dulles to Leesburg, but during those late afternoons that Greenway is always the same price. Not that I like it one bit, but compared to other toll options in Virginia, it could be worse.

The SCC is asking for public input regarding the proposed increase in toll rates on the Greenway.

Please take a couple minutes to let the SCC know that you are fed up with these ridiculous rate increases, and to stop taking advantage of us. Also make sure to tell them that each time they increase the rates, you use the road less and less, since that is one of the conditions around rate increases (the SCC can't approve rate increases if they will "materially discourage" use of the road). The application for the rate increase can be found here - https://www.scc.virginia.gov/docketsearch#caseDetails/144114

You can provide your input directly to the SCC for this application by following this link - https://www.scc.virginia.gov/casecomments/comment/PUR-2023-00089

Let your voice be heard! Tell them that enough is enough!

    Thanks!

But how can this be happening? State Delegate David Reid promises lower fares and graduated pricing every election season.

Just like the operator of 495 Express Lanes, 395 Express Lanes and 95 Express Lanes. An Australian company named Transurban which has a 67 year concession.
