We are reminding residents who utilize our tennis courts to not use permanent markers to draw pickleball lines on the courts. The defacing of property is considered criminal vandalism under Virginia Law. We appreciate your help with keeping our courts free of destruction.

I don't know who did the "defacing", but scolding residents on an HOA forum probably won't solve the issue. I think listening and responding to changes in the desires of community will probably work better.

The HOA Board holds some responsibility for these “criminal” actions. I know of several attempts to communicate to the HOA Board by numerous groups wanting to play Pickleball and share the tennis courts in our community.

The board allows and promotes Pickleball lessons on the tennis courts by allowing taping of the courts and using tennis nets but no regulation net/line support for Pickleball. Other local HOAs are responding to residents’ requests by converting courts to multi-purpose tennis/pickleball courts.

Want to stop tape, permanent marker, and whatever comes next? Listen to the community and respond to change, we’ll all enjoy a better community.

    Chopper-
I believe the courts off Wynridge have been striped for Pickleball at residents request.

And NO amount of self-justification would support the defacing of someone else’s property.

I like to play tennis and can’t always find an open court when the weather is nice . I have never tried pickleball but it seems to be rising in popularity nationally. Why doesn’t our community consider adding some new tennis/pickleball courts? This would cost us some money but would add value to the neighborhood as well as encourage more Broadlands residents to engage in healthy, outdoor activities together.

I think the simple reason is that we don’t have the open ground to put one on.
It’s too bad Hyde Park went data centers. I believe they were going to build us 3 or 4 pickleball courts.

Yes they are striped, however, they use the Tennis nets which is slightly different.

The issue with Pickleball, it can be annoying for residents who have to put up with the pop.. pop of the pickleballs. Being right under the windows of the condos there probably would drive the residents nuts. However, striping the courts by the farmhouse and providing pickleball rollable nets could turn 2 tennis courts into 4 pickleball/2 tennis multi-purpose courts that didn't annoy residents.
