I had an experience yesterday that made my hair stand on end...I had turned onto Milford from Clairborne last night about 7:15 and as I was just heading on Milford three young boys on scooters crossed over directly in front of me without looking or stopping! I am sooo thankful that I was going very slow for otherwise I don't think an accident could have been avoided.

I don't know who the parents are or I would have tried to speak with them for as I turned off onto my own street, the three scooters were still ahead of me. Two of the young guys (maybe 8/9 years?) had the commonsense at that point to go to the side of the road and stop but the third just stayed in the middle of the street in front of my car, zigzagging back and forth. I tooted lightly on the horn and he turned around and looked at me, smiled and stayed in the middle of the road!

Hmmm. The other night, my wife and I were driving home from Bonefish, coming down Claiborne towards the Nature Center when we saw someone actually lying in the road (on the right hand side) face down with another person standing over them with something like a baseball bat in their hands acting in threatening manner. When we pulled over, they both ran away. A silly teenage prank or dangerous stunt? Someone could have hit them. Not good.

    I agree about Darwin. :)

Someone *should* have hit them. Your first mistake was pulling over...not a smart move. Guy with a baseball bat, prank or not, you can't be pulling over being all "Say, what's going on here?". Save yourself, call the cops and let them handle it.

Carol -- The SAME thing happened to my husband just yesterday too... He was turning on to Milford when one boy on a scooter darted right in front of him. Parents need to keep these kids in check!

We have seen kids on motorized toy cars on the street (instead of sidewalks or bike trails). Where were their parents? They were behind them walking while talking to their friends. Glad to see parents protecting their kids ??!?!!?? [:p][xx(]

In the incident I experienced there were no parents/adults present or I would have stopped to chat with them. I have no idea what street the kids live on or who they were but given how Milford is a "main thoroughfare" through Southern Walk I wanted to make sure residents could be watchful!

I was looking at a couple of open houses along ridgeway drive the other day and cars were going above 45mph, its guess thats why there were no kids playing along that street. Hmmm....maybe we should just increase the speed limits at all streets in Broadlands so that the parents would no longer let their kids play on the street.

Seriously, these are still neighborhood streets and I think the speed limit is 10-15mph. I agree parents should be more responsible, but lets just do the "neighborly" thing and drive carefully.

Motorized (battery or gasoline) vehicles are not allowed on sidewalks. Its against the law, not to mention very unsafe for the pedestrians. My wife and daughter were sideswiped by a 9 year old on a gas powered Miniature motorcycle on the sidewalk. I was pissed!

Isn't the speed limit on residential streets 25 MPH?

Since it seems like speed bumps are not an option... what can we do about speeding on some of these neighborhood streets? Ridgeway - or speedway is horrible. Cars are going 45mph through it - right past the elementary school. Thankfully I do not live on Ridgeway, but when we walk it, we use extreme caution with our child. Speeding is only going to get worse as more of Southernwalk and other areas of Broadlands are open. This is going to become an even larger problem then it is now. Many of us realize it's a huge problem even now, so you can only imagine what it is going to be like in a few years.

I don't drive back there.. but isn't ridgeway kind of barren.. is it really the edge of the development or is there just future building that isn't done back there yet?

meaning.. maybe things will slow down when its not the 'wild west' anymore

The sheriff's department knows of the speeding issue on Ridgeway, the HOA Board passed on to our Sheriff's Dept liaison our concerns, and they have highlighted that location for extra enforcement. They've been placing their speed awareness trailer there, as well as setting up speed traps on that road.

I saw a few of them out yesterday on Ridgeway - on the road and on the sidewalk. Is there any enforcement of this policy? Either people aren't aware of it, or don't care.

Our house backs to one of the walking paths and we see so many motorized scooters, especially on the weekends. I've called Wes before where he confirmed they're not allowed there, but I haven't seen any signs posted. Those scooters scare our dog when we're out walking on the trail too.:(

Why do the cops sit along Waxpool on the way to Ashburn Ice Rink by the MCI parking entrance where there is literally nothing around there except vast fields and industrial centers (i.e. no residential neighborhoods)...and the speed limit is a ridiculous 35 mph? I guess to make money. Would MUCH rather have them in ANY residential neighborhood.
