Any suggestions or experiences to relay associated with furniture stores? Best service? Best price? Best selection?

We like the La-Z-Boy store in Sterling. Decent prices and quite a few in stock items. The staff wasn't pushy.

Depending on your taste, we have really enjoyed "Olde Mill Furniture" in Ashburn. A lot of hand-made furniture, some one-of-a-kind, at a variety of price points.

    http://www.oldemillfurniture.com/

We also found two really nice leather club chairs on sale at the new Restoration Hardware outlet store in the Leesburg Outlets. Another of our favorites is the Crate and Barrel store in Tyson's. We've had good sxperiences there as well as a few items from Storehouse. These stores also have outlet stores in Leesburg.

If you like mid-century modern furniture, the best place in the area, hands down is Dan Donnelly Design in Old Town Alexandria.

If you are going the bargain route, be prepared for the sales staff at Haverty's (by Dulles Town Center). We bought a cheap sofa and loveseat there, and had to swat off the sales people like they were flies. They pounce the minute you walk in the door. They weren't particularly pushy, just ready for a commission. One even chased me through half the store when I went back to look at the color again after my purchase (no swatches - annoying!).

I can't comment on the quality or delivery at Haverty's, since we special ordered for delivery in August. They have a big showroom, but there is limited flexibility with upholstery colors and textures. They seemed to have a lot of that suede fabric going on (not a real favorite of mine). On the flip side, if you choose something they have in stock, you can get in delivered quickly.

Nearer the other end of the scale, we have been pleased by the furniture and service at Ethan Allen.

Don't forget the Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware Outlets in Leesburg. The prices aren't that great and some of the stuff has serious flaws, but if you have your heart set on that kind of trendy furniture, you might do well there. (Especially if you want a partial sectional...)

Our favorite is the Guest Room on Rt 7 just before Leesburg. High end furniture, but good prices for that, locally owned and operated. We've bought a dining room suite (kimball), additional dresser for a bedroom suite I already had (mobel), club chairs (highland house), and a desk (sligh). This over the 6 years we've been here. They're great; they'll special order from any major manufacturer. When there was a problem, they were quick to resolve it (sent a chair back to the manufacturer and got me a new one).

We love Old Mill Furniture. The new owner changed the name to Old Mill Furniture from The Oak Barn. I have many pieces of their furniture... dining room, kitchen, bedroom, bookshelves, etc. Great place to get furniture and the service is outstanding!!!

A lot depends on style and budget but favorites of ours have included:

IMI -- we believe that the quality is excellent and IMI seems to carry very distinctive and unusual pieces. Located on Church Road.

Treasures in Time -- This is the place to go if you like items which have a distinctive South Asian or Middle Eastern flair. There are original authentic pieces as well as reproductions. Located off of Church Road.

Belfort Furniture -- Here you will find typical American pieces of good quality. Located on 28 near intersection with Waxpool.

IKEA -- good place for inexpensive yet attractive and serviceable pieces. Located Potomac Mills.

You should also try Stanis Furniture in Merrifield. They have good quality furniture (real wood) and much more reasonable prices than I have seen other places. We ordered a real wood headboard for our daughter and it was the same price as the fake stuff at the Room Store.

I have to second my wife, the Guest Room on Rt 7, just outside Leesburg, has a great selection of fabrics, and they only deal with American furniture makers.

If you're looking for furniture that will last, I'd take a trip up there. And don't think that what they have on the showroom floor is the only stuff available. They will special order anything that the manufacturer makes, often at prices 25 to 40% off the MSRP.

We go to Gallahan's in Fredericksburg. It's a hike, but it's 50% off retail for all the big names if that's what you're looking for...Broyhill, Thomasville, Stanley, etc etc. They have a lot of really pricey stuff, but the show room is huge and when we have spent enough time browsing, we could usually find something in the price range we were looking for.

Ask for Lolly Weinstock -- she's been taking care of us for years!

Yeah Stanis is nice... Gallahans has a nice store.... only a year or 2 old. Belfort Basics is ok for low-end stuff... mostly from China there. We bought a lovely sleigh bed from haverty's and we love it! But yes, it's annoying to see the vultures at the door when you walk in... I usually brush them off and look at things for myself. As for La-Z-Boy, we find their products to be substandard nowadays... there's alot better out there for around the same price.

Got my couch from Scan. Dankar wasn't bad either but Scan was more my taste. I like Ikea for simple stuff like my Poang chairs. Belfort seems good. Girlfriend got her sectional there. If you like contempory (learned the word from the girlfriend) stuff, check out BoConcepts. Bit pricey but cool stuff.

Great info, thank you everyone. Are any of these places good sources for leather furniture?

I know La-Z-Boy has a section of Leather furniture. We have not looked at the pieces closely, just noticed the section.

We bought our leather barcalounger chair at Stanis. We love it!

We looked at Lazy Boy too but the quality there did not seem to be as good.

We bought two leather club chairs at the Restoration Hardware outlet in Leesburg.

    http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product_suite.jsp?productId=112&navCount=5

They were in excellent shape and were made by Mitchell Gold, a reputable furniture-manufacturer. They had some nice leather sofas as well but we were not in the market for a sofa.

    http://www.restorationhardware.com/...avAction=jump&navCount=8&categoryId=cat950002

Their furniture may not be the style you were looking for. But if it is, we saved a few hundred bucks off each chair buying them at the outlet store.

    Good luck!
