The Leather Living store on Rte 7 in Tyson's had good prices and selection on leather furniture. We got a nice chair there.

While we're on this kick, does anybody know anything about furniture outlets in NC or elsewhere? Is there a good place to get discontinue furniture (like Ethan Allen)? Thanks.

My husband and I've been down to NC several times to get good discounted stuff from Thomasville. There's a big furniture mall in Hickory, where they have a lot of name brand places under one roof that you can browse. For instance, we've been able to purchase a Thomasville armoire that was selling up here for 3800 for 2100 down in NC! I think this was the place...http://www.hickoryfurniture.com/.

They have discounted items from places like Thomasville, Henredon, Drexel Heritage, etc., but they don't carry Ethan Allen. I don't think Ethan Allen has a discount/outlet center. I remember asking their corporate office last year. Anyway, we found we saved enough that the trip was worth it. Plan on spending a night, bec it's definitely not a day trip! Good luck!

Do the outlet stores (like the ones mentioned in NC) carry brand-new items or do they sell damaged, refurbished or discontinued things? I'm asking because when I hear outlet I don't typically think of brand-new, undamaged stuff......

Sorry, the Hickory Furniture Mart isn't really an outlet. For instance, the stuff they sold in Thomasville in the Furniture Mart was the same stuff you get up here in the retail stores. They said they're just able to sell it at wholesale prices, kind of like Costco. However, they do have Thomasville outlets in NC, and they have stuff that's a bit damaged, etc.

My son has outfitted most of his house by buying furniture from NC. I will find out how/who he has done this. He and DIL have some beautiful quality pieces that they acquired at NC bargain prices!

A very nice furniture store that we have found pretty recently is Arhaus in the Fairfax Corners area (over near the Fairfax County Government Center and Fair Oaks Mall). They have a great selection of furniture--not just run of the mill stuff. My wife and I searched for months and months for the perfect entertainment center for our family room. We ended up going back to Arhaus, because we just loved the piece there. Their prices are not bad at all, and the sales people are helpful, not pushy. I highly recommend it!

We just found Arhaus recently and love the place. We are going to buy a few items from them this week.

But we received our new shaker style dining room set from Olde Mill Furniture this weekend and it is truly awesome! Melissa at Olde Mill is a joy to work with and everything went flawlessly. I can't recommend them enough.

Thanks for the recommendation -- we saved about $500 going here over Storehouse for the same sofa and loveseat (Storehouse = Rowe on most upholstered pieces).

If you are looking for Budget stuff try out Belfort Basics. Another store we recently discovered was the Weekend Store in Chantilly, VA on Rte 28. Its open only on ,guess what, weekends. Its the same chain as The Furniture store but we found hte prices reasonable.
Another to consider is Marlos in Alexandria, VA. They have a huge collection, however I got scared after I read a few rip-off reports on them.

I don't know if any of you have ever tried going to Greenfront located in Farmville VA. It takes about 3 hours to get there (so plan on spending the night). It has 7 to 10 tobacco warehouses that have 3 floors each of everything you need for your house and yard. From nic nacs and carpeting to furniture and artwork. It is a great place and is very inexpensive. Last time we went, they will ship anything anywhere for $50. It takes about 2 days to get through all of the buildings. Bring measurements with you because I guarentee you will find whatever it is you are looking for. Don't confuse the farmville location with the Sterling location because there is no comparison AT ALL. Have fun if you decide to go...it's worth it.

I have always had great experiences at the Storehouse in Tyson’s....it's on that same side street as Clydes. The staff is super friendly and their warranties and great. I highly recommend taking a look there.

To be honest, I have found great deals on my patio furniture at some Giant Food locations. It is plastic, but we only use it to entertain friends and grill out during the summer months.

For anyone shopping from North Carolina, we had what may be the worst service ever from A & H Wayside Furniture in Reidsville. Even the delivery drivers said they were the worst as far as returns are concerned. Please do yourself a favor and don't buy from them.

We're looking for some basic, reasonably priced, real-wood bookshelves. Anyone have any suggestions? Obviously all the stores listed here have them, but I was wondering if anyone had any particularly good tips.
    Thanks!
