This was mentioned in passing in another thread- Safeway has appeared to jack their gas prices up over 40 cents, while the local Exxons and Sunocos have gone up less than 20. Safeway doesn't even serve the Gulf Coast (I lived in N.O. for several years)- Has anyone else looked into this? I plan to call the manager this afternoon. They better have a good reason, or it's hello Shopper's Warehouse for me.

    Anyone agree?

I purchased gas on Monday at $2.69. When I drove by yesterday, it was $3.21...a good 51ยข in 3 days...

Honestly, it's just another reason for me not to shop at Safeway.

As with most gas stations, the safeway gas station does not set their prices. We did call to complain and the answer we received was that they (the manager of the safeway) was very unhappy with the prices, and was complaining to their management about it. The extreme price hike had to do with who they purchased their gas from. Sounds not quite right to me, but at least the store is attempting to do something about it.

Spoke to the manager a little while ago (real nice guy), said he told corporate he might as well close the pumps for all the bad feedback he's been getting. Then again, people were in line at the pumps as I was leaving! Probably people coming and going straight to the toll road without realizing the difference in pricing. It's still 30 cents cheaper most places . . . still plan to curtail my shopping there- Walmart, three major car companies etc. are giving millions to help in a national emergency, and then there's Safeway.

Judging by the empty aisles most every time I stop by to pick up a prescription, I didn't know anyone actually shopped at Safeway. Just don't know how they keep the doors open...especially when Wegman's is drastically cheaper on most items we purchase.

Unless I mis-read things, Sunoco has higher prices the Safeway. So while no one likes higher prices, they are happening all over the place.

Yesterday afternoon I tried to get gas in Broadlands and both Safeway & Sunoco were roped off and "out of" gas. Safeway looked to be replenished by the evening but the prices had gone up (although they are still cheaper than the others). I had paid $3.37 at the 7-11 gas station, I think Safeway is about 10c cheaper if I remember right.

I went to Safeway this morning as a truck was delivering gas. It appeared that all pumps were open again.

Clifton Park NY has regular unleaded going for $3.79. That is the highest gas in the country as of today. US Average is $3.08.
