I've not been too interested in the Gov. race until this week, when I received two flyers from the Kilgore campaign primarily smearing Kaine. Though Potts is still a possibility, I know who I'm not voting for. Just a glance at the campaign websites tells you what kind of guy you're voting for.

Kilgore - http://www.jerrykilgore.com/
Kaine - http://www.kaine2005.org/home.php
Potts - http://www.russpotts.com/main.cfm

Who is trying to present a straight forward campaign and who seems more interested in pushing the other guy's face in the mud? Which candidate is showing a better example for our children?

On that note, at the debate on Sunday, the moderator asked both candidates if they would promise to keep their ads positive. Tim Kaine vowed to make at least 51% of his ads positive ads. Jerry Kilgore refused. Here is what I read in the Post:

If the debate is remembered for much, it probably will be for Sabato asking both if they would pledge that at least half of their commercials for the rest of the campaign be positive. "I'll make the pledge, Larry, to stand by my ads," Kilgore said.

"You just heard Jerry Kilgore . . . not even being willing to make a commitment that 51 percent of his campaign from here on out will be positive. That should tell you everything about this candidate," said Kaine, who later added, "I will make the commitment on this stage that well over half my ads will be positive."

Hi Joy,

I just received my FOURTH 8" by 11" flyer this afternoon dedicated to smearing Kaine. Not a word why Kilgore ought to be governor. No negative mail from anyone else yet. Looks like Kilgore's trying to buy the election with all these mailings, etc.

I'm glad someone paid attention to the debate. I tried to tune in and couldn't find a station on directTV that carried it.

Yes it seems that viginia residents are subject to a mud-slinging campaign. Since I support the RNC and most of their platforms - I am saddened by the Kilgore Campaign...thus the lack of facts and back pedaling. Kilgore has been called out on both the gas tax, transportation bill, and now the dealth penalty. Long story short - I think I want to move to canada :)

Sad thing is that I met Kaine in Leesburg a few weeks ago and addressed the debate at the Greenbriar (where they both made national news for the tension) and Kaine apologized for the poor image that this campaign has bestowed on Virgina Residents...I say we vote for Pedro

We want Potts! er, maybe. Seems a little rambunctious.

Anyway, I'm glad people from both sides of the aisle see the problem. There should be some kind of pledge these guys take, with political consequences for not focusing on standing tall and giving us a solid plan. Oh well.

I've been so saddened at the state and federal level--it seems that everyone but us is aware that if NoVA were a separate state, it would be the wealthiest in the union, and the state and fed pols have gotten way too used to taking our votes and our money and letting us twist in the wind.

Between the $8M fed grant to remove lanes from rte 50/install 4 traffic circles between Gilbert's Corner and Lenah, and Kaine's pap about getting APFO/doing away with Dillon for a magic traffic bullet, I almost feel like we should band together in a moratorium on sending any taxes outside the county until the state and the fed do their job by us.

I have a concrete reason to vote against Kaine--the GA isn't going to change enough for him to get APFO passed etc--and if he is elected the pie-in-the-sky about stopping growth in a by-right state will only serve to egg on the people who oppose everything. Seriously, a moratorium on growth (while currently illegal) would just stagnate the economy. It doesn't mean any roads would actually get built.

So, we could tax ourselves for it? That would pass, right? (Just like in 2002)? and what about the billions we've sent to Richmond and DC to pi$$ away for years? I almost think it doesn't matter who wins, because they aren't going to do anything for us anyway but keep taking our money.

Barbara Munsey, from South Riding.

I'm not happy with the slow infrastructure development, either. I don't see the republicans in the GA as any more helpful than the democrats, or Gilgore as any more likely to improve things than Kaine, so I don't see how your apple falls over there.

And I'm not sure why you think several dozen thousand more housing units in the county will sustain or increase the value of our homes, which is probably the most important factor for most of us. Supply and demand, right? Whereas a smoother and faster commute to Tyson's/DC from S. Riding, for example, sure as heck will. I don't see the newer office parks around Dulles filled yet - so why should the developers' main agenda to build further out outweigh the commuters?

I suppose those owning several acre estates in Great Falls could complain about subsidizing the commute of poor folks in South Riding, Ashburn, improvements to 50, 66, rail extention and such. I don't think such thinking makes for a very healthy or happy society.

Scott, from Broadlands.
