Neil, I think he is referring to the "original' Visitor Center by the first B-Land pool.

I think it is a multi-purpose bldg now. Some of the committees have their meetings there and homeowners can rent it out for provate functions.

When I was a kid, I had to walk to the TV to change the channel.

Oh yeah? Well I used to have to hold the rabbit ears in place after walking to the tv to change the channel!

Heres an idea, how about the Broadlands HOA approach the Ashburn Village HOA about getting us the ability to get a membership.

I seriously doubt the A.V. HOA would do such as thing, as Ashburn Village is still building in areas, and as I understand it, that place is always in use as it is.

Again, based on what they pay in HOA fees for that pavilion, it would be better to pick up a membership at a local gym.

Neil is right - we lived in AV for 6 months while our house was being built in Broadlands - that place is ALWAYS crowded and Homeowners Dues are high. Not worth it....it's really bad if you don't even use the place and still have to pay for it.

Here's another idea. Why not join a gym or sports club if you want to work out or play sports?

They do take people outside of their hoa the first of every month they have a lottery for those that sign up for it. It is not very hard to get picked and join the ashburn village sports club if you are an outsider.

Like usual many here rather discuss this to death, RATHER THEN MAKE A CALL AND GET A FEW FACTS.

Neil I will have a full report this afternoon as I am going by there later today. :) As I recall the prices were very good even for outsiders. There is a lot of organized and unorganized things to do there both for adults as well as kids and teens.

Outside memberships to the AVSP are sporadic at best. Thee are times they will accept a few, and times they won't. They do often allow outsiders to participate in sponsored activities such as swim lessons, tennis clubs, racquetball leagues, etc. There is pressure on their HOA Board to eliminate ALL outside memberships, but that faction has not yet completely succeeded.

Same here! Growing up in Syracuse, NY, we made snow castles, destroyed them in very intense snowball battles, went cross-country skiing, and played driveway hockey (even without snow, ice or skates), just to name a few outdoor activities that were possible in the cold.

FWIW, we got a "couples" membership in the AVSP through their lottery about two years ago. Our monthly membership fee, including towel use, is roughly $95/month.

barring a sports pavilion, it would be nice to have a gym such as the Lifetime they have in Centreville here in Ashburn. It's extremely large and open 24 hours with basketball courts pool, kiddie pool plus a huge amount of fitness machines and weights, when I lived in C'ville it was a great to go there anytime. Only bad points it was getting way too crowded as I moved to Broadlands during the evening weekday hours.A positive additon the price with an employer discount was much less than golds or olympus for either one person or a family.

There are plenty of commerical gyms in the area, with more being opened in office complexes and strip malls every day.

There was one 'health spa' type of complex in the office complex at Claiborne and Ashburn Farm Blvd. Not sure if its still open or not.

I pay only $33/mon for Golds. I think thats plenty cheap. The only complaint I would have is if someone wanted a place with a pool or basketball courts (they have basketball in Golds in Sterling if you want that). Pretty much best solution for that is Ida Lee but thats a bit far for daily gym runs.
