We also belongs to Golds Gym and they told us they're building a HUGE gym in Ashburn, not sure where tho. It is supposed to have a pool and basketball....at least that's what they told us.

I heard that too. I heard that Gold's was going to build one in Broadlands....and that if you already belong to the AVillage Gold's that the price will only increase about $10 to belong to both Ashburn Village and Broadlands Gold's Gyms...

The site they are looking at currently is not in Broadlands but over by the Home Depot. But as of my last conversation (2 weeks ago) with Golds those plans were on hold. The developer of the site is not willing to sell them a pad site but wants to instead rent it to them. For a facility the size they want it is to expensive for them to rent. So my understanding is the plans are on hold until they can find a site that is willing to let them by the property

Here's the response I got from Steve Snow's office regarding the recreation facility in Broadlands. I'll post more information when I receive it:

    Cliff,

I just wanted to fill you in that I heard from our finance guys the
other day and a Broadlands Community Center is in the proposed CIP.
Unfortunately, I believe it is several years out. Steve and I will be
working to move it up but we may have to phase it in like we did for the one in South Riding. Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated.

    Regards,

    Mike

I asked when it might be in the CIP budget. The response was:

Hard to say because I haven't seen staff's proposal yet but it is late in the CIP. My best guess is that it would go to bond in 2010. Construction would then be completed in 2012 or 2013. Clearly this is not acceptable. My hope is too move it up and get the project to bond much sooner. Stay tuned.
