Anyone else have horrible Cingular cell reception inside their home in SW? Have you found any remedies for it (other than switching providers)?

LKelly, are you sure it's not your phone? I have 4-5 bars throughout Broadlands and I was under the impression Cingular used space on some of the towers that line the Greenway. You *should* be getting better reception then what you are indicating...

My husband's phone is a fairly new Nokia, mine's a Motorola, and both get terrible reception. If we had the same model, I might think that the phones were the problem, but... I have to wonder if our intercom system (builder-installed) is causing interference with the cells.

I had the same problem with Cingular when I lived there (Demott Area). I had a new (at the time) SE T637 that was great everywhere else.

Did anybody ever ask Cingular what's going on? Seems strange to have a Cingular store right up the street, yet have such bad service.

I had this same problem in a different area for verizon wireless and you can dial *228 to update the programing in your phone and roaming capabilities. After this I had a lot better reception.

You may ask cingular if they have the same service.

I don't want to bore you all with the techy details (since I am working with 4 other wireless carriers as well as Local Govt Agency for this exact project)...here is what I can share with you and I hope it helps:
    Network Update:
XWY(can't give the name due to an NDA) Tower released monopole rights to Cingular - they are trying to tweak the new site - the pole on Builders Lane is interfering the frequency as well as the one over by Loudoun County Pkwy, coupled with 3 very large Antennas on the School Admin building - if you want to email me directly I can walk you thru the telephone diagnostics...this will help the carrier triangulate the signal.
    Telephone/Hardware:
It is possible that you may need to upload some software to your phone or potentially do a master reset. As for the possibility of a Home Security system potentially causing the issue...I'd have to say it's unlikely - since most of the time the systems are hardwired and rarely enter into the wireless frequencies/spectrums...however I am aware of two companies beta testing 2.4GHz - 5.6GHz. Send me an email and I will see what I can do to help.

My wife and I finally switched to Verizon after having Cingular in the DC area for about 6 months (we moved from LA). Both LA and DC were HORRIBLE for Cingular reception, and it was a very regular occurance in both areas to be dropped repeatedly during calls. We have NEVER been dropped since we switched to Verizon. Cingular's new ads have me scratching my head as to where the data comes from that they have the best reception.
