Seamstress?

Does anyone know of someone who can alter a dress for me? I'm in a wedding on 5/5 and need it completely finished by 5/1. It needs major alterations! I need someone REALLY good at this, not just someone to hem the bottom. The top needs alot of work done to it. Unfortunately, the dresses were purchased in DE and that company doesn't have any shops down here! Thanks!

I used the tailor over in sterling in the same shopping center as Home Depot, Linens n Things, and Famous Daves for a bridesmaids dress. They did an excellant job, however it did cost me $100 to have it done.

 

What did you have done with it and was it recent? Do you remember the name so I can try to find the phone number? Thanks.

I have had really good luck with Zariff but you need to let her know when you need it. She has done suits for me, my child's soccer jersey which was HUGE and some complicated pants that were dressy.

 

I believe it was Pervin Custom Tailor & Formal (703) 404-9051. I just had the work done in late September/early October for my brother's October wedding. They had to alter basically all of my bridesmaid dress because it was at least a full size too big.

 

I, too, have had good luck with Zariff's but as someone already said you would need to make sure she could have it done by the date of the event. They do excellent work, though.

 

I just called there and the woman I spoke to was super nice so I'm going to take the dress over on Saturday. She said it would be no problem getting it done on time! Thanks for the referral. I appreciate it!

 

Just as a back up - there is an excellent seamstress inside Nordstroms - you have to go to the cocktail dress department. I went last night to have my top taken in on my Nicole Miller gown - she said it would be done by Tuesday. They only charged me $12 for 4 seams. - Just a thought

 

That's good to know, thank you! I will definitely keep that in mind. I took the dress to Pervins. They were super nice and very easy to work with. My whole top basically had to be taken apart and redone and relined (so did everyone else in the wedding party). The prices for the alterations were pricey but right in line with those who had them done at other places in PA & NJ.

 

As a follow up - Norstroms called on Friday to let me know that my dress was ready for pick up - I went today - everything fit and they had cleaned and steamed my dress at no charge...not too shabby for $12. So I am pretty happy with the service, speed and price. I'll check out Pervins too, b/c I need some pants cuffed (since I am about 5' it seems that I have to get a lot of things tailored) thanks for the heads up on Pervins.
