    Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we might have our sliding patio door "rescreened"....it is getting a little worn (almost a hole!)
by the handle and thought we might replace the screen as well as weatherstripping.

    Thank you.

May be easier to just replace the door. They are not that costly and are simple to install as they typically come in standard sizes.

You can buy a do it yourself kit at HD or Lowes It's not that hard, just remove the old one and put the new one on.
Had a few experiences with this when the dogs/people failed to stop for the screen.

Is this a kit for re-screening, or a whole new door, mine needs replacing too.

    Re-screening:
Usually contains a screen, new black rubber rope to hold the screen in place, tools to roll the rope into the joint, etc..
It is actually very easy to do.

If you don't want to do it yourself, try calling Larry Miller's Window washing service. He's a local and advertises in the newsletter. Larry repaired a few of my screens last year when he washed the windows. I'm not sure if he did it himself or took it to a local friend who does that work but he charged me a very reasonable price.

the "rope" is called spline -- it's easy to do with a $5 tool and some screen... not sure if sliding doors take that type of spline though...

thanks boomer, I was drawing a blank when I was writing early. Most of the kits I've bought came with the Spline, Tool and Screen togeter. :) And the screen doors are the only ones I've ever replaced myself.

I re-screened my door today, Home Depot has the kit which includes everything you need for the job except for a sharp edge like an exacto knife to trim the extra screen. The kit is only $5.97 and took me about 30 minutes. I'm just sorry I didn't do this earlier.
