    Hi
Was wondering if anyone here in Broadlands can recommend any reasonable and reliable T.V Repair shop. One of the TVs ( 50'' Sony, 5 years old) has just conked off. Picture/video is just not showing up volume/audio looks to be working fine.
Wanted to see if I can get an idae as to how much will it cost me to fix that and than decide whether I should go for a new one???.

    Any pointers???

    Thanks
    Sandeep

FWIW ... there aren't that many any more. When TV's became giant circuit boards with a big video tube, they started to also became very reliable, and less likely to break down.

The only problems you usually see now is the video tube going bad. In your case, I'm assuming its an internal projection TV, and the projection lamp or tube went bad.

If you can't find anyone in the Yellow Pages, you could check with Best Buy to see if they have any ideas on repair costs.

If it's a 50" then it's probably a rear projection...chances are it just needs a new bulb and those are usually user servicable. The only problem is that it's an expensive crapshoot if it isn't the bulb as they're typically 200-300 bucks.

There is a good shop in Herndon that I have taken stuff to before, it's off the main squar across from the Ice House Bar. Don't know the name though. It is a dump, but good reasonable service.

You could also try Glebe TV - 703-471-0407. They're located off 606 in Sterling.

If its 5yrs old, it might be a CRT rear projector and you can't replace a 'bulb' in those... you can always search on google for some tips and hints to find out what's wrongl

Go with the Herndon recommendation. They charge $40 for a diagnosis that's later applied to the cost of repair, if required. It is a dump but the technician has been fixing TV for years.

If you don't want to take the TV in, I used Hi Tec, he came out to the house...fixed it same visit...I think similarly priced to the others from what I researched...
