For all homeowners that have trees that overhang a trail or sidewalk, please trim them so the average adult can pass under them without ducking. I run on various sidewalks and trails throughout Broadlands and often find that I have to duck to pass under trees in people's yards.

I agree...I love how much natural life there is in Broadlands and the trees really are beautiful but the branches really do get in the way. It also attracts more bugs to places where people like to walk.

On a related topic....the street trees on Milford Dr. in Southern Walk are all looking pretty dreadful. I think they might be walnuts? Not sure. But many of them have multiple dead branches that need to be pruned, most need general pruning or shaping, and a few are dead. Probably a bad tree choice by Van Metre, but everyone living there now has to deal with it. Looks generally hideous when you drive down the street. Maybe they'll look better as they grow. We had a few on our street when we lived over on Bankbarn and they still look funky. They just have an odd growing habit and shape.

Is it possible to send a reminder out in the newsletter since not everyone reads the forums?

Just want to add my "two cents" worth--if the tree limbs and/or branches overhang on VDOT's right-of-way, VDOT will trim or prune trees FREE. Before we moved to our land, in our old neighborhood I was on the HOA board and VDOT informed us that they are responsible for pruning trees 10-15 feet if it hangs on their right-of-way areas. Shrubs also. Call the VDOT Leesburg office and they will direct you to the right department.

If you cannot get assistance, email or post query on forum and I will give you the correct information. I still call VDOT for this matter. It does not make any difference if it is a subdivision with 1/3 acre lots or larger neighborhoods.

    Thanks.
