I'm skeptical, too, since the markets around here don't seem to have many vendors as is. I don't another one would help the situation. Although a week night market might work...

We sometimes go to the Reston on Saturdays, but I would love one so close to us! We would go all the time, that would be great!

If you are talking about John Whitmore's farm, he certainly is still in operation, raising quite a bit of what he sells at his excellent roadside stand on Rt. 15 north of Leesburg. Bringing his produce here will be like having our own community Wegman's.

Wonderful idea! I can't seem to get over to Sterling or Leesburg for the ones they have there but I would definitely go if there was one right down the road!

I think the idea of a local farmers' market is an excellent resource for your community in Broadlands and for others outside of Broadlands. However, Cliff and others, you might wish to "double-check" with the local farmers' market association to be sure that all necessary paperwork (i.e. permits) have been met. We previously (in metro Atlanta) assisted with local farmers' markets. I do know the local County Extension Agents if your HOA needs additional information.

Seeing that we own a total of 50 acres and farm it for our family (here and in GA), I can suggest other local farmers, etc. for your farmers' market. Farmer John may already have the necessary connections that you need. Since liability issues play such an important item for HOA(s) these days, it is just a thought for you to consider.

For those of you interested in local dairy items: creamline milk, fresh butter, eggs, cheeses, ice cream, yogurts, etc.--South Mountain Creamery (from Hagerstown, Maryland) delivers for home usage in Leesburg and is located on Saturdays at the Vienna Farmers' Market. They are also looking to expand beyond Leesburg. We use their products.

Also, Trickling Springs Creamery (from Pennsylvania) delivers to Frederick's Common Market Organic Foods Cooperative and For Good Sakes Natural Foods Market in Leesburg (near Tuscarora Restaurant). Their web site, respectively, are as follows:

    SouthMountainCreamery.com and TricklingSpringsCreamery.com.

Thanks for your patience--if any of you wish to know how to freeze, can, etc., I am interested in showing you how if you are interested. Just drop a note.

I just got back from our Farmer's Market and am happy to say there were about 5 people in line to pay as I walked up and more arriving as I was paying for my produce. Can't wait to grill my corn on the cob and peaches this weekend!!

Thanks so much for putting this together!

I was *so* there today - peaches, corn, tomatoes, squash, onions, eggplant and melons along with jams.

Tomorrow they also plan to have apples and cucumbers and perhaps some blackberries!
