Can anyone recommend a doctor with this specialty? I heard a lot of wonderful things about Dr. Andrew Silva, but the first available appointment isn't until September 8th and he doesn't take my insurance (United PPO).

    Thanks in advance!

Silva. We loved him. Had tubes in, adenoids out, tubes out all under the age of 5. When we got to having tubes out, he no longer took our insurance so we paid out of pocket.

I'd recommend calling his billing person directly and asing about the insurance, and also calling your insurance directly and asking about Silva...sometimes going from what the receptionist says isn't always the most accurate.

I had tubes in my ears three times as a kid, each time the fell out on their own...I even found one on the pillow once. Is this not the case anymore?

Usually they do fall out after a year. Apparently sometimes they don't, so after 3 years they decided they needed to remove them (surgically, of course) so that the hole didn't remain permanent. If tubes were still needed, they would have made a new/different hole for them.

Dr. Bahadori (preferred) and Dr. McBride at Reston Hospital. Liked them lots after the first appt. for my child and tonsil surgery is scheduled this month. May be hard to get into also. You will never know unless you try though.

I second the recommendation for Dr.Bahadori. He has a great bedside manner, very good with kids. Nothing but good things to say.

I also recommend Dr. Bahadori! He's been great! He took my daughter's tube out (one fell out on it's own, the other did not). She had them placed in when we lived in another state! My husband liked him so much that he actually did his surgery (he had nose issues), even though he's a ped. doc! He's worth the wait, in my opinion!

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations! We called each doctor but weren't able to get an appointment before September. However, we did get in to see Dr. Michael Mellis yesterday, who is in the same suite as Dr. Silva and Dr. Fox. He was fantastic! Dr. Mellis spent a lot of time with us and was very gentle and patient with our 16 month old daughter. His number is 703-858-3020.

Ohhh, that's even better! Dr. Mellis was actually my favorite over Dr. Silva--we started with him. But then Silva went with the pediatric title so they encouraged families to shift to him from Mellis. Dr. Mellis is brilliant and has a better bedside manner. Very calm and helpful.
