Hi Folks, Since you all helped us with the Granite install earlier this year (which we LOVE - Hugs to Cliff for the referral)...I am just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a contractor for a Steam Shower and MasterBath remodel? Any thoughts or suggestions would be warmly welcomed.

Look in previous posts. Several have recommended Terry O'neil. He came and gave us a quote. Was reasonable, but a little higher in cost than I could afford. He works with Conastoga Tile in Sterling.
We found James Lampley. He has done our guest bath already and is going to redo our master bath. He is just really starting out on his own while still working for a commercial company. He typically gets his material from Mosaic tile in chantilly. James also is probably more of a weekend / evening type person. # 703 338 4067

We had Terry Oneil come out, great guy but he only does TILE...no plumbing or glass...so I am looking for a GC/HandyMan that can accomidate a FULL remodeling. I'll give James a call, thanks!

Try Cliff at Beauchain Builders ... he has done alot of work in Loudoun, both inside and out.

Sites not fully done yet ... I'm still working on it.

I would NOT recommend Cliff at Beauchain Builders.

He is absolutely a home owners nightmare, typical contractor that wants to "fleece" homeowners because we live in a nice development. He came out today for our 2nd meeting and gave us a "contract" to sign. We would have been okay with it, if he had provided pricing. However, during today's meeting he wanted to do our projects his way and did not listen to any of our ideas and concerns. I stepped out of the house to get my husband (who was doing yard work), at which point Cliff got into his truck and pealed out of our driveway. He left skid marks on our driveway and proceed to run two stop signs.

If he acts like this during the pricing and design phase, can you imagine what he would be like during the actual construction phase.
Again...I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend Cliff @ Beauchain Builders.

FWIW ... this is not the experience I had when I worked with Cliff on the screenroom/deck I had built on to my old house on Marsh Creek.

I'm sorry to hear about this.

Re: Master Bath Steam Shower and Remodeling???

I am adding this post as a bit of clarification to the post submitted by Thepea:

Was I specifically asked to sign a contract: No.
Was I handed a contract to review: Yes.
Did that contract have a signature block with my name and my wife's name on it: Yes.
Did that contract have terms and conditions listed: Yes.
Did one of those terms include an up front payment of $1,000: Yes.
Had I received a price quote yet: No.

He could have easily explained to me verbally about how he conducts his business rather than giving me a contract to sign. Or he could at least handed me a blank contract that did not have my name on it.

In my book, the intention was explicit, whether verbally requested or not.

Something there puzzles me ... he showed you a contract, but did not ask you to sign. Is it possible that he had it available for you to review before finalization of the entire project and price? And speaking of the price quote ... was there a finalization of your requirements.

I remember when I had the deck done, we met with Cliff at least twice before he brought in his architect to finalize the design. We then signed an agreement to cover design fees. The final contract was signed when we received the design, cost estimates and project timeline.

Having met quite a few of Cliff's very satisfied customers when doing research on what we wanted to do, I'm pretty sure this was a misunderstanding all around.

Neil... yes or no, do you manage/design the Beauchain Builders website (read your earlier post in this thread)? Would it be a stretch to think you may have a vested interest in "positive feedback" for your client?
You and both know that most of the SMB mentioned/discussed renders the best type of advertising - word of mouth.
Presenting the contract is a passive intent for us to sign it, considering that it had our names and address had been printed on the contract, of course he wanted us to sign it.

If $1,000 is the going upfront design fee, I am in the wrong business.

Ok, so I must have miss-understood him when he left skid marks in our driveway and then neglected to obey two stop signs?

Or how about when he told me "what are you talking about, that header is not load bearing and if you want me to do the casing, that header needs to be flush with the ceiling"

BTW this is when I told him..."ok, I need to get my husband back in here" First wrong approach period, secondly Cliff's trim-work employee expressed the same concern I had voiced, thirdly it was shortly after walking out of my own house both my husband and I heard his tires screeching out of our driveway, not to mention we both watched him run two stop signs.

I must have really misunderstood, when Cliff's wife Tina sent me an email demanding that I change my "feedback" on this thread and that my feedback was "slander"...again wrong approach and certainly not the best way to clear up a misunderstanding.

Bottom line - we have completed several major projects around our house in the past 24 month (in fact you were on a committee that approved on of our projects) and I have NEVER encountered what I did with Cliff from Beauchain Builders.

Yep this is why I don't get involved or recommend contractors to family friends neighbors and especially anyone on this site. :shakehead: ha ha

Re: Master Bath Steam Shower and Remodeling???

FWIW ... yes I did setup their website. I only do websites for people I have worked with in the past, and who have dealt fairly with me, as I do with them. I only have three clients, who pay me by the hour for work commissioned by them. This is a hobby and is pocket money for me, so whether or not the companies I do websites for stay viable only means I won't have some extra cash to put toward my vacation, nothing more.

However, as I mentioned, I did check out their previous work, as well as talked to a few customers. I was satisfied with their references, as well as impressed by the accolades they received.

That said, one bad experience prior to a contract being signed, weighed against many satisfied customers ...... I can understand someone being upset about such a declaration, and using harsher language in an email during the heat of the moment. than one would normally.
