    Hello,

We want to get our windows tinted for a room to protect fading for leather furniture. If you have done this at your house, pl share your experience and the company, who you hired for this?

We have spoken to Atlantic Sun. They seems reasonable so far.

    Any inputs are appreciated. Thanks.

Yea, we got it done for the entire southern and western windows in our house and it has really helped with temperature. I think that it is well worth it and was around $1100 for us... but that was quite a few windows and some large ones. I am trying to remember the names, but there are really 2 main companies around here that do this and the main difference is the film that they use. I think all of them are pretty equal but I think there was a difference with warranty so make sure to ask about that. I think now the windows look like they have a slight "sunglasses" look to them, but it also seems to really sharpen the field of view by reducing the glare.

You can also buy DIY (Do-It-Yourself) packages--hubby did All our sunroom (12 large windows and patio doors) with DIY package. Not too hard to DIY--I even helped!

Cuts down glare and reduces heat loss. Several products to choose from.

Here is a helpful Consumer Tidbit for Residential Window and Door Sun Tinting from the August 30, 2006 issue of Charlotte Observer:

    Tintcenter.com/news/283.html

As you can see having a Masters in Consumer Education/Nutrition from UGA is helpful! Although I am pursuing post grad online at Kansas State University for nutrition and food science--if you need assistance post queries.
    Thanks.

We used Classic Window Tinting out of Rockville - 301-816-3030. They use 3M products. Installers were very professional.

We used Atlantic Sun Control and were very pleased. If you do decide to go with them, make sure you have their coupon -- should be 15% off "whole house".

We also did it ourselves for smaller windows. If you're talking about windows that are quite high up or very large, then I wouldn't try to tackle yourself. But either way I'm sure you'll like the results!

Lowe's has several different shades of window tinting. Easy to install from the inside of the house, and works great.

One thing about these films the tint can have a mood effect.

Some make the day look hazy and if you love the sunlight streaming thru use the clearer or no tint products. I have e glass which was already on my windows from Pella when I was building my home. It is clear or least you can't tell and it does offer protection. Yet the light is not affected. At least to the eye.

I had tinted windows in Houston and great protection from the sun yet I hated the fact the day always looked hazy. It seems like a little thing at first but I guess it depends on the person. :) I love the sun personally and don't want it altered. Just want the harm it does gone!!!!

On my neighbor's recommendation, we used ClearVision, Inc. to install Vista brand window film on our lower level back windows. I was mainly concerned about fading of our dining room furniture and our family room couch. It was about $600 - there are varying degrees of tint and sun protection. I'm assuming we are getting the benefit that the film is supposed to provide, but I guess time will tell!

It looked like something easy enough to do it yourself, but we just didn't want to botch it.

We were happy with the service -- good office support, helpful guy to do the estimate, and a couple of polite and efficient guys came to do the installation. I'm pretty sure my neighbor had her entire house done, and she loves it.

We had ours done about 18 months ago with East Coast Tinting (Pam is the main contact) and really liked the company, the installers, and the work they did. In addition to protecting the floors and furniture, there is a noticable difference with heat and glare.
