My family went to the Italian restaurant by Five Guys today.. I wished we went to Five Guys instead. We ordered 5 items.
    -Appetizer
Mozzeralla balls: For the high price they charged for this.. you would have thought you would have gotten at least 4. Inside they were mushy. Cheese was not melted enough

Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad: Chicken had a burnt taste. When asked for additional dressing they bought over a little dish with less then a tablespoon in it.

Calzone: NO sauce in it and NO ricotta cheese please.. After 2 attempts we told them to take it off the bill. Don't know what they didn't understand about NO ricotta cheese.

Lasagna: Sauce tasted "yucky" as my teenager said. Ragu is better. I agreed. The noodles were mushy not firm.

Blanco pizza: Thin crust good.. mushy crust no good. To much olive oil made the crust mushy.

Asked for some bread and butter. It was a cold piece of Ciabatta (not sure I spelled this right) bread with a spoonful of butter on the side. Bread tasted "day old."

After all this the manager never came over. The restaurant felt like a cafeteria not a cozy Italian restaurant.
No ambience .. very noisy. Expensive for what it is. I don't mind paying a lot for good food. I do mind paying a lot for bad food.

If you want great French food.. and don't mind driving to Winchester try La Nicoise it is on 12 South Braddock Street. Worth the drive. Nice quaint..lots of ambience. It only took me about 50 minutes from here. Great date spot!

We too had a bad experience there last weekend. Our server may have also been the manager. There was one other family and another couple in the restaurant while we
were there, so there should not have been a service problem.

When we went to order he "warned" us that the caesar salad was very flavored with anchovie. (OK isn't is supposed to be? If that's your recipe then stand by it - don't ask me if I REALLY want it!) Then the meatballs our child ordered were sold out. He never came by to refill our drinks or check on our meal.

We thought the portions were small especially on the
salad. For the price, it should have been an entree size
salad, yet it was more of a side salad.

We also had a pizza margherita which was only OK.

Then at the end this guy had the gall to come over and apologize for his bad service because he was from Massachusetts and couldn't tear himself away from the game!

At least the manager should be comforted to know that when the restaurant closes, he'll have plenty of time to watch whatever he wants.

How rude and self-absorbed of you to expect the manager or server to fill your drink glasses and bring your food when the Patriots are playing! ;)

Here's a tip. Don't go in Sunday evening between 6-9pm. I'd hate to see what happens to your food if the Colts actually beat the Patriots.

Oy. If that was the manager, then Pomodoro's at the rink has no reason for concern about competition!

    Dear TheOnlyIcey and Others,
Hi :) I've read your comments about Al Forno, and I know what you mean. I tried their pizza the other evening and was terribly disappointed. I'm trying to let as many people know about Catanuso's Cafe and Panineria in Ashburn Farm's Parkhurst Plaza, because their pizza is the best I have ever had in MY LIFE! I'm not kidding or exaggerating. Once you try their food you will never want to eat anyone else's attempts at Italian food. The owner (Luciano) was born and raised in Rome, Italy, and all of his food is homemade by him. I go there at least twice a week and order one of their pizzas and panini. We love Catanuso's. Everyone--let me know if you go there and what you think. The panini (Italian grilled sandwiches) are to die for! And they come with chips and a drink. All of their ingredients are fresh...it's about time something like this came to our area!

If you go to Catanuso's, tell me what you think about it. Maybe we should start a new strand for Catanuso's??!!!

Take care and stay warm! :)

    roll tide and others--

Saw post while I was studying earlier or is morning? No, we have not been to Five Guys or the Italian restaurant mentioned on thread.

We prefer Emilio's pizza in Sterling.

Signing off for four hours sleep--:D

Pomodoro's pizza crust was the same as cardboard. Not impressed. Still searching for the great pizza place. Same with Giovanni's.

We really like Bravo. They have the best meatlover pizza I've ever had. I am just a little too lazy to get it too often, though (no delivery).

Another pizza recommendation--but its not close by.

If you are from NY/NJ you should try Buon Apetito NY Pizza
in Chantilly. It is in the shopping center by Babies R Us.
Its the closest I can find to my NJ neighborhood pizza.
Thin, a little chewy crust, garlicy/spicy sauce, lots of cheese,
and the oh so important oil slick. Excellent. Almost south
jersey boardwalk pizza but the crust would have to be pulled
a little thinner and they'd have to burn it a bit on the bottom.
    You know what I'm sayin?

Oh I am getting so hungry for my favorite pizza place in the world.

Rays in New York City on what I think is 11th and ave of americas. Many rays in NYC but this is the best of the best they also opened one in Jersey close to a client of mine that built a 25,000 square mansion on the top of second mountain. You real Jersey people will know what I am talking about.

There are a lot of rays in NYC but this is only the one true rays from what I have heard from my NYC buddies :) I think they also have one over by Columbia U also but never been to that one only the Jersey one and the original. And both of those are identical in taste and quality.

Anyway funny story,I decided to get a slice of pizza at rays in NYC. normally my client gave me a chauffeur and stretch limo but this time I rented a car because I was going to see relatives down in Cherry Hill after I finished with my business. ( don't be too impressed the chauffeur was his brother in law and he hoped this job would keep him out of trouble. ha ha ha It didn't work too well tho :)) Anyway I drive into the city, park the car in the parking garage across the street get a couple of slices to go and come back to get my car.

Well I did not know about much about parking prices in NYC and the attendant said that ten minute parking time would cost me something like 15 bucks. (Can't remember the exact amount but it was way up there) I almost fell over dead. The most expensive slice of pizza I have ever had ha ha ha ha , But even at that price it was worth it compared to the pizza around here. ha ha ha :)

Stumbled into Al Forno last night and we really loved it. Nice little wine list and the pizza was very good. Not a NY style or a deep, greasy pizza. Thin, crispy and woodfired. If you went here months ago and have't been back, try it again.
