Signs don't bother me, as long as they are only out during the weekend. :racing:

I don't have a huge issue with road spam for advertising, but the whole politician ad thing really "gets :rant:my :censored:goat:angryfire:". As if :screwy: I will vote for the guy who plants 14 signs on one traffic island, and not for the one who planted 12.
Cliff, is it possible to fine them for planting their signs on private (BHOA) land without permission? Or if they are on public land, is there an ordinance against it and related fines? Or as a third option, perhaps we could lease out the islands for advertising use, with the HOA able to control the appearance and content of the advertisement.

We are looking into whether the HOA can impose fines. They are illegal, but the county and VDOT do not have the resources for enforcement.
You may not mind advertising signs if it's only a few. But here's what happens: business A puts one on every corner. Business B sees this and does the same. Business C decides to put 2 on each corner. Before you know it, our roadways will be an advertising mess.
The HOA has adopted the policy of NO SIGNS posted in right-of-ways. This will also apply to Van Metre's signs.
Realtor Open House signs will still be allowed on Sat and Sun. We are okay with this exception because they are referenced as allowable in the Broadlands Comprehensive Sign Plan, and it is OUR houses we are trying to sell.

    Cliff,
I meant that we could put up some nice-looking electronic message boards. Then we could make money off the paid advertisers and diss :flame: the ones who put up cheap placards.
We could also look for sponsors for the pools, nature centers, etc. Picture this...:genius:

    "Chevy Chase Competitive Pool"

Not bad, if I do say so me self!!! :genius:

    or the...

    "Original Steak House Nature Center"

    I really crack me up!

Here's an idea. The Nature Center can have many rolls of big stickers that say

    HELP REDUCE ROAD SPAM
    Do not patronize this establishment

we can give them to all the allegedly terrible teenagers that roam Broadlands. THese bored kids now have something to do....put the stickers on all the road spam and leave them there for the world to see. it's a Win-Win situation.

Im sure that the people who did the bumper stickers for iparklikeanidiot.com will be able to make some stickers for the teens to plaster.

Ohhhhh! I am gonna order the jumbo pack and start putting it on all of the jerks who park with their cars blocking the sidewalks.
Seriously, it must be too long of a walk from the street, which is about 3 more feet away!!! This practice is extremely dangerous for our children who use the sidewalks for scooters, skating, and biking. (Not to mention that it is inconvenient for walkers).
Some child is going to swerve into the street to avoid one of these cars, and it could end in tragedy.

Is that a violation of either HOA/VDOT laws? I have a neighbor that fully blocks the sidewalk every night. It's never been a problem for me but I was curious it is in violation or just nothing more than being inconsiderate to those who use the sidewalk.

Ditto, if your driveway is not long enough for 2 cars, park in one of the many places on the street and walk....

I'm pretty sure it violates county ordinance. The difficulty is getting it enforced.
