Golf course across from AOL

Anyone know what's going on with the Golf course across from AOL? The building on the clubhouse looks to have completely shut down as nothing has been done to it in at least 2 months. I see cars over at the trailor on my way in to work everyday but nothings getting done.

Just wondered what happened there.

 

it's pretty much been "under construction" since we moved here 3 1/2 years ago. it used to be bear national golf course and is now the presidential (i think!). a friend called to ask about memberships and they said they are only selling corporate memberships!!!

 

I do see random people playing on it every now and then when I go home, assume they are tied into the operation some way, but you never know.

According to the aerial pictures on live.com from about a year ago it looks like there is no work on other holes done except for the area you can see by the road which does not even appear to be a complete set of 9 holes. Eventually it's to have 27 holes, span both sides of the Broad Run as well as Waxpool Rd., but that all looks a long, long way off.

 

I wonder if financing has stalled.

Alot of CC's will use significant portions of initial membership collections to finance the completion of the clubhouse.

Perhaps they are not getting the Corporate money as quickly as they thought they would.

 

Remember which businesses they were probably expecting to get memberships from:

AOL ... high flying until it decided to merge with Time-Warner, and did not take into account the fact that lots of people were becoming Internet savvy and didn't need a separate program to access content, also didn't jump on the high speed bandwagon either.

MCI/WorldCom ... and we all know what happened there.

First what they are building that you see under construction is not the main clubhouse. They went in for a rezoning and I think that is why they have paused construction.

The main clubhouse which is much much larger then what you see under construction is going to be built way back off the corner of waxpool and pacific. Across from wegmans. Not sure their timeline on that. They are going great guns on the extension of the course across the creek on the same side of waxpool as the existing, now that the sewer line to the new sewer plant is now finished through that area of that part of the course. They will soon be adding more course on the aol side now that again the sewer line is finished.

What I understand individual memberships are available and I heard it will be open to the public also at very high greens fees.

Individual memberships are only available to the Nicklaus Golf Academy at this time. Limited playing time on the course will included.

 

rharse stopped in a few weeks ago and also was told only corporate memberships are available.

The company that owned it was the same that owned Beacon Hill CC just west of Leesburg. The company went under and many in that community lost 50k+ on their membership. Bear National/Presidental have been trying to get investors, but have run out of funding i believe its up to 4 or 5 times now. Problem is they are leasing the land and dont own it is what i have heard.

 

Funny tho - I can see flags in the holes. I guess we can play for free?
