I’m usually not one to complain about our beloved neighborhood but the awnings on the McDonalds in Southern Walk Plaza are simply dreadful.

Looks like the color of cheese combined with a shade of mustard.

Please tell me that I’m going color blind…

but Chief, is that not the standard colors for McDonalds? Not saying I like it, but that it is not surprising. Their color scheme leaves a lot to be desired in general.

I thought the original color sheme was yellow and red... These awnings are two tones of yellow.

What color would you like them to be?

From what I remember from my marketing class in college, McDonald's color scheme is supposed to be one that sticks out, and makes people not want to linger. Eat and leave quickly, that is their intent. Although, I have to agree, my husband and I drove by today and he too made a comment about the awnings and the fact that they don't blend into the shopping center.

They could be pictures of Big Macs for all I care, as long as it’s pleasing to the eye and matches the other buildings. ;)

In other areas of the country developers and counties control the colors and signage far better then here.

Again this county is starting with a clean slate and is slowing turning itself into just another place without the serious control from the county and developers especially on signage color schemes and placement of buildings and saving the natural trees and buffers.

You all are starting to see what I have been talking about for years many of those pretty woods are NOT buffers and are slated to be torn down with more trash architecture. See what this place looks like 20 years from now. I have seen throughout this country many many planned developments that are far superior to here.

Loudoun is lucky in the sense it has a lot of natural beauty but it is disappearing rapidly in the eastern side.

Brambleton has done a very decent job so far separating the commercial from residential, but we will see what happens in the future.

The urban developments such as One Loudoun will be far superior in design and planning then many of the suburban developments here. Suburban developers trick people they leave all the woods in the front as you drive to the models they don't even put up any signs that say future commercial because that may scare off buyers. Then BAM one day the trees come down and this is what you start seeing and terrible buffers between some of the residential and commercial. It is a real shame and a crime for this to happen because it did not have to with better planning and would of not cost one dime more.

Actually, compared to other McDonalds I've seen, I thought the Southern Walk one looked pretty nice.

In the amber glow of dusk, the striped awning looked fresh and clean. ood thing it's not a Bob's Big Boy with a 400' tall burger out front :)

I agree. I think it looks fine--very contemporary yet the stone finish still blends in with the center. Glad its not the standard 1980's style. The one's with country curtains are really disturbing.

I drove by it late this afternoon and feel the same way better looking then most of the McDonald's around here and a little bit of retro with the arches and the drive thru speaker stand. I agree the stone does help a bit to blend in with the center. The color of the awnings looked fine to me kind of festive.

I agree McDonalds looks good... the real issue is the awning over Glory Days and the just plain DENTIST sign

I also think the McDonalds looks nice and the other places seem to look ok too. The only things that seems strange to me as well are the plain "DENTIST" sign and the Charlie Brown blue tree in the corner - what is that for?

I think it looks better than most McD's I've seen, I think it's cool how they have letters in yellow over the drive-through, the tasteful use of stone, the way they incorprated the "Arch". BTW, I was wondering how long it would take before someone complained about the color of the awnings. YAWN

Well, there are very few, if any, real problems in the neighborhood to complain about, so those that like to complain need to find something.
